2 month shots

2 month shots

Ava was given her two month shots today.  I cried.  It was terrible listening to her scream, and seeing her so upset, she lost her breath while crying.  :(  Right now she is dozing in and out of sleep, and crying in between wake and sleep.  I asked the Pedi and he said I could give her .4 ml every 4 hours for pain.  I waited from 11:15 to almost 3:30 before I gave her anything... was that terrible of me?  I tried to hold off until she started to show signs of discomfort, and when she displayed them, I gave her Infant Tylenol (Pedi said Motrin was not recommended because they have not performed enough studies it).  My mom and SIL kept telling me to give her something immediately.  I am not one who medicates unless it is absolutley necessary.. from what I was told by my Pedi was that not all babies have pain after the shots.

I was also told today that I can give Ava water, and juices that do not contain citrus.  We stopped at Wal-Mart and purchased the gerber bottled juices that you just add the nipple to.  I have not decided if I will give those to her or not.  I would really appreciate any input on water and juices from those experienced mommies.

Well, I don't remember about the water or juices with dd. I just wanted to ask if you gave Ava all the shots and how many were there? I dread the 2 month shots, at least I have 2 weeks to stress, ha ha. I remember giving dd Tylenol in the office because what a dingy I was, she spit some out and I asked if I should give her more, ha ha ha. I laugh now thinking back.

I hated those shots.  I have a journal entry about it actually.  Give her the tylenol only if she's in pain...you don't have to medicate her just because people tell you to.  I wouldn't give her the water or juice right now.  She's still too young.  There is something about the water and the electrolytes in a baby.  My pediatrician only allowed me to give Jayden some prune juice and water when we started solids at 6 months.  Never before then.  Poor Ava, give her a hug for me.

aw. i remember how awful those first shots were also. i thought he was going to hate me forever. i did give edward tylenol after the shots, but not until we got home because he was too hysterical when were were in the office. you're the mom and its totally up to you. nothing will happen to her if you don't give her the tylenol, but she may be more comfertable and rest easier if you do give it to her. i would wait on the juice/water until she starts solids, prob six months or so. i only gave edward diluted juice for constipation which he didn't like and hardly drank. to this day he isn't a big fan of juice, but loooves water, which is fine with me. he can have all the water he wants :o)

All of my kids have reacted differently to shots.  But it also seems like everytime I have a baby, they give them to them in a different part of the body.  Sometimes, it's their bottoms and sometimes it's their leg.  Most of the time my babies do get soar from them though.  My last one (she just turned 1 on June 13) always runs a fever when she gets shots.  But some of my other kids didn't run fevers.

I know it hurts us as much as it hurts them though.  I try like heck to get my husband to go to the shot appts. with me because I am a big wimp.  Sometimes he can and sometimes I just have to be tough!!!  LOL

I will go grab my paperwork to let you know what all she was given shots for.  There were three shots all together, one in one leg, and two in the other.  Before she was given the shots they have her a liquid to soothe her belly so she wouldn't get diahrea or vommitting.  I'll let you know what she was vaccinated for today.

I know the first shots (and the following vaccines) are rough. I wouldn't give juice before 6 months. Good luck and hugs to baby Ava!

I wouldn't give her juice this young.  Or even water.  All she needs right now is formula or breast milk.

The juice and water suggestion actually came from my Pedi.  I was a little shocked he suggested it.  He mentioned the weather and said it wouldn't hurt as long as she takes small amounts at one time, and does not lose her appetite for her milk.  I was shocked, but it kinda made sense to me while I stood there.  He said do not use city water, or regular juices, he said if I were going to give her juices I should buy baby juices.  I still haven't given anything to her other than my breast.  :)  and I probably want!

I think the liquid they gave her was the retrovirus vaccine....it isn't a shot, it comes in liquid form.  I may be wrong though.

I was giving my son water around 2-3 mths per his pedi. He loved it and still does. He is 11 now. He nursed and never had a problem even when he was given water. I didn't try juice until 6 mths though... You do what you feel is right... as mommies we have a sense about our kids. What is good and works for one won't always work for others...

I started giving DILUTED juice to DD a month ago (she's 21 mos).  I'm paranoid when it comes to teeth.
