So i have 2 questions that i would like some advice on

1) so my nipples hurt, burn, and kinda itch. not all of the time but i feel it enough. dominic does have some white on his tounge. ive read that that means he has thrush (yeast infection) in his mouth, therefore i have it on my nipples. he has a doctors visit on monday, but i cant get an obgyn apointment for awhile. what should i do? wait till his doctors visit and let them know? then would there be a short release from this for me till i can get an apointment for myself? its not that bad but it is bothersome.

2) down there kinda smells for me. i havent had a period in what 9 months and im not bleeding right now from labor. i am wearing a pad. i dont kno if it always smells if you wear a pad but ick. it seems like i just change it and it smells really foul. i feel like i cant get clean down there. any thoughts

1) I would call his doctor immediately to let them know and then contact your ob so that they can get you in right away or at least get you some relief.  I've never had that so I can't tell you what you can do.

2) I also had that odor.  My doc said it could be from the dried blood or it could be a little bacterial infection.  It's normal.  She gave me some cream that you insert and it cleared up the smell immediately.

For the burning nips, I would suggest soothies..They are wonderful and lanolin from Medela helps with soothing sore nips as well. Jordana had thrush a few weeks back on her tongue, but I never had it on my breasts. She was prescribed some drops and it went away after the antibiotics took care of it(1 drops in each cheek 2 times a day for 10 days).. And the foul smell sounds normal to me...I had it as well, my dh and I referred to it as ''the smell of a dying vagina''-gross but that is how it smelled. You may want to check and make sure that nothing is infected 'up there' and perhaps be tested for Bacterial Vaginosis-I suffered from that as well at the end of my pregnancy that carried over after the birth or my dd. It just means you have an imbalance of bad/good bacteria and Antibiotics will clear that up as well. Good luck and congrats on your little son

Just keep nursing him until you can get to the doctor--he will give you the medicine to help clear it up....make sure when you wash your nipples not to use soap--just warm water or if you do use soap make sure it is unscented..and you rinse well.

As for the smell--make sure you use your squeeze bottle after every time you use the bathroom with warm water--for one it helped make the stitches a little more comfortable and also any of the healing that is going on that say may produce any ***** substance will be washed away....also use your tucks medicated pads they also help with the healing.

I would call the doctor as it sounds like you both have thrush.  The thrush can get pretty painful for your baby and prevent them from eating so if you want to call before the Easter weekend that would probably be a good idea.  I also had thrush on my nipples from my daughter having thrush and we just both used Nystatin to clear it up.  She also had to take Diflucan which you can take also so just give your ped and gyno a call and let them know what is going on.  The sooner you both start on the meds the better.  Be diligent with the instructions for clearing up the thrush as it can be a hard thing to clear up on a baby.  It took us several rounds of treatment to finally clear up my daughters.  Good luck.

That is what my dd was prescribed-Nystatin...couldn't think of it...It worked really well and took care of the thrush within the 10 days.

i know many people make their own all purpose nipple ointment (APNO).

one of the components is an antifungal, which is what thrush is.

as for the odor, if you are no longer bleeding, you may want to ditch the pad. make sure you are wearing cotton panties. and of course bring it up to the doc when you go for your nipples.

o i have another quick question

my mom and i were talking about flu shots, because i had gotten one a few months back and supposidly people with newborns and young children should get one, but i was wondering why is it that pregnant woman should get a flu shot? are like pregnant women at a greater risk for infections or illnesses? or is it just the flu?

Pregnant women are at greater risk from serious complications from the flu.

Sounds like you got good advice from the other ladies regarding the nipples and the odor issue.  Look into the Soothies.  They are GREAT for sore or irritated nipples.

There is an odor as your uterus heals from childbirth.  It shouldn't be gross or horrible, though.  You should be checked to see if you have a minor infection.  Change pantiliners often if you are wearing them, even if they are hardly soiled.

My daughter had oral thrush, you can pick up Nilstat from the chemist and take 4 drops a day and it can also be used on your nipples, it clears up right away.

I had thrush that I got from being around an infant who had it.  I was only around her for like 2 hours so watch youself because you can get it yourself.  I just had little white things to suck on and that helped almost right away.  Your little man is so cute!
