2 quick questions

by Kim1989, May 13, 2008 11:01PM
1) dominic seems to always roll his eyes in the back of his head when he eats. its not all the time but it seems to be during every feeding. its kinda creepy. this is normal right???

2) Still breastfeeding...but dominic has been enjoying biting down on my nipple very hard lately, and then pulling away while biteing. kinda like a wild animal tears at a newly killed animal to tear apart the skin. is there ANYTHING i can do to try and get him from biteing down on my nipple and pulling at it? its not very pleasant

Yes,  when he bites,  say "no" sternly,  and put your finger in between his teeth to immediately release his suck,  and that's the end of the feeding.

Obviously,  don't let ths go on so long he's being malnourished.  If he can't learn not to bite you may have to pump for him.

Funny,   when I was breastfeeding the babies would learn when they were about 5months old - if they heard something interesting they'd CLAMP down hard on the nipple so they don't lose their "place" - and turn their heads to see the noise.  I'd shout OUCH,  release their hold,  and that would be it.  They learned quickly.  ;D

Oops,  sorry,  don't put your finger between his teeth,  but between his "gums".

He rolls his eyes because it's just so darned good to him.  When feeding a baby, they always act like their hunger is a life or death situation and do what rock rose said for the biting.  I hated that but it didnt take long for my baby to get that it was a no-no

i say do say no to him. but still he bites down. i will start breaking his hold but the funny thing is usually he will bite down. hold.....then continue. maybe he does hear something or something catches his attention that he does that so he doesnt loose his place. who knows.

ok so as long as him rolling his eyes in the back of his head is nothing worry about right now. thanks!

1) he's enjoying the boob ;)
2) my 2 months old DS is doing the same thing.  When he wants to see something, he clamps down on my nipple and turns.  He also controls the flow of my milk that way (if it gets too much for him).  It hurts a lot!  I say "no, stop" he looks at me and continues to do that :(

both my babies did the biting down thing, and it just gets better when they get teeth, my oldest did it quite a few times and the NO thing didnt really work with her, people told me to flick her when she did it, but i couldnt because it was too cruel lol, so i just gritted my teeth through it, i breastfeed until she was 13 or 14 months old, and had 6 teeth she never managed to bite it off, not for a lack of trying tho, haidyn is doing it now and her first tooth cut a few days ago so trust me i feel your pain, im trying the no thing every time she does it, but its not working as of yet, taylor (the two year old) eventually stopped on her own,

what i found was when she was done eating she would do this, so maybe when dom starts to try and maul you to death, pull him off the boob everytime, and hopefully he will get the hint that when he bites he gets no more boobie,

and again both my babies do the eye rolling thing, i and some one said it best...its just so good....my dh said its the same look that i have when im eating pie lol he thinks its genetic

Jameson is just now starting to bite at 8 months--since he got his first tooth. I've noticed he almost always only does it when hes not really hungry----when he REALLY wants to eat, he doesn't bite.
I do what others suggested too; sternly say No and end the nursing. Remember that baby has NO idea he is hurting you.SO the only way to get him not to do it, is to associate it to something unpleasant---such as a firm "NO" and no more boob.

And as for the rolling the eyes, Jameson did that ALL the time when he was younger. I remember vividly. It doesn't mean anything is wrong---he's just in heaven with that boob!! (typical man) ha ha ha LOL
