21 mths old boy loves to play with dolls

by twin_mama, Sep 28, 2007 07:00AM
I have a 21 months old B/G twins. I Noticed lately that my boy likes to play with his sisters toys (dolls and girls accesories like hair brushes...) he enjoys it more than his trucks or other unisex toys (lego blocks, animal figures..) I buy him a vriety of non girl toys but he is not intrested at all. he likes to play with his sister's toys at all time.
Any idea how should I deal with this

Perfectly normal. They do like a variety of play things. Girls play with cars, too. Relax, everything will be ok. Also, he may be a follower and be doing what his sister is doing.

i agree with tmv. most of my ds sons playmates are girls, all of his cousins are gurls (the men on his father's side cant seem to produce boys..snicker!) he came out one day wearing pretend heals and wearing a tiara....I just laughed and he was happy to make me giggle. he's probably just influenced by sister...he'll get interested in his boy toys eventually, he wont turn gay if thats a concern for you. perfectly normal...

Its actually good for his development to play with toys of the opposite sex...my son had a doll house, kitchen set and a doll....he's 5 and he is all into boy stuff

Are you worried he'll become gay if he only plays with "girl" toys or are you worried that it's a sign that he could be gay? Just curious because it's completely normal and healthy for boys to play with stereotypically girl toys and vice versa. My DD plays with dolls and she also loves trucks, bugs and tool sets. Toys don't influence sexual orientation.

Sheez, don't worry, playing with anything is good.  Dolls, trucks, a piece of string and a lid from the pickle jar, anything.  Just don't make him feel he is in some way wrong, and he'll be fine.

Kennedy  has a whole box of cars and trucks and i feel that is perfectly fine, because i had read or heard somewhere along the lines that if little girls/boys play with the oppisite sex toys, they are likely to be smarter in some way in math when they get older. i know it sounds completely ridicoulus, but honotsly i did hear this. i think the article had something to do with physics and math skills of children and how they develop as an adult.

also, children that age like to play with things they see daily and are relevant to their lives. legos are abstract to a toddler than young. he sees mommy and daddy interact with their children everyday (hence interest in babies) and he see you use brushes everyday. if he lived on a farm, he'd probably be more interested in those animals.
