26 weeks pregnant & Percocet

by PregnantMaggie, Apr 11, 2009 12:57PM
Hello all.  I am 26 weeks pregnant now and recently had a tooth extraction due to a lot of pain and an abcess (abscess)- my doctor prescribed me percocet.  I had taken it a few times during my pregnancy before due to Braxton Hicks contractions and ajor teeth pain.  On average I am taking 8-10 percocets a day (the pain is unbearable and I have developed a tolerance to this medication).  I was wondering how dangerous this is to my little miracle and also more importanty- what is the proper way to taper off of this medication?  I was tol that if I can avoid taking this medication inmy 3'rd trimester (so pretty much now) then the baby and I should be fine.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated and considering I have about 15 percocets left I need to know if I shoulf try and get another small prescription so I can handle the withdrawals for baby and me better?  I really don't want to harm either of us!  Thank you kindly and I wish all the best to all the expecting mothers out there with the same problem!!!

This is something you need to be discussing with your OB. You both should work closely together to find the best way to taper off of these medications safely as that is a lot of medication.
