2nd Miscarriage, High HCG

2nd Miscarriage, High HCG

I had my first miscarriage in September 2010.  Started bleeding and went to ER.  We saw gestational sac and it was determined that I was 5 weeks pregnant, but my HCG was only 3,000, which was low, so I was told I would miscarry soon.  The bleeding picked up quite a bit and I did miscarry within 1 week.  I had follow up ultrasound and it was determined that I passed everything naturally, so I did not have a D & C.  However, it took 2 months for my HCG levels to drop back down to under 5.
We started trying again in December.  I did notice that I would start my menstrual cramping much earlier than usual before my period.  This concerned me, so I went to Dr to discuss.  She ordered an ultrasound, which came back normal, no signs of cysts or fibroids, etc.  She then decided to do lab/blood work right around the time of my next period.  My period was due on March 30th.  My period arrived on April 1st.  I did bloodwork on April 3rd.  On April 4th, I went to dr. office to discuss the bloodwork and I was told me HCG was 13 and since I had what I though was my period, I must have had a chemical pregnancy.  We did follow up bloodwork on the 7th.  My HCG went up to 85, but my progesterone was 0.04.  I was told that if I had not already miscarried, then I definetely would because with the progesterone being so low, there was no chance of a viable pregnancy.  I went on vacation for 1 week and when I returned on the 18th of April, I did blood work again and my HCG was 3109 and my progesterone was 12.  They told me I was pregnant.  I had an ultrasound the following day and there was no gestational sac, but they saw a "mass" outside of my uterus and assumed I was having an eptopic pregnancy.  They discussed either surgery or methotrexate as my treatment options.  On the day of my ultrasound, my HCG dropped a bit to 2500.  So now, we are watching to see if it drops further on its own.  They may not do anything and the "mass" they saw could be a blood clot.  I am awaiting a call from Dr. office to tell me what level I am at today.  If It has dropped, they will do another ultrasound next week, and hold off on surgery or methotrexate for now.
I am wondering if anyone has had a similar pattern happen??  Or can offer any advice....
