2yr old with fever

I think this would be the right spot to post this...My 2 year old woke up this morning running 102.7, gave her some tylenol and it dropped to 101.3.  I've put a call into her doc(waiting for response) thought I might get a response here faster though, while I'm waiting.  At what point is it imperative to take her in? Only other symptoms are her saying, "my foot hurts, teeth, leg, hand, etc." basically everything.  Not exactly sure when a fever becomes dangerous...Thanks for any help!

That is pretty high for a little one. How long has the Tylenol been on board? If she is an hour or two in and this is all you have gotten, it may be a good idea to take her in just to rule out something more serious.

Generally a sudden high fever is indicative of an ear infection and docs vary on the treatment of them. The general thought now is that if a child is 2 or older, they like to wait and see before giving antibiotics. However, some are quick to write the rx.

If your baby is fine and behaving otherwise in a normal fashion, you may just watch and wait. If mine are listless or miserable, they go in. If they are otherwise normal, playing and acting fine, I usually just wait and see.

Thank you for replying.  Her doc is out today and there's only one other in the office today...I was curious...Are ear infections contagious?? I ask b/c we watched a 5month old on tuesday who started antibiotics last thursday for an ear infection. I think I've decided if the other doc can't get her in we're just going to head for urgent care.
Tylenols been in her for 2 1/2 hours now.  Not eating, but drinking plenty of fluids. Fortunately, she's never been sick b4 in her life. But, that is also making me more nervous.

No, the ear infection is not, but the cold that usually leads to the ear infection is.

I think urgent care is a good idea, I would always err on the side of caution with a little one.

If you get time, let me know how it turned out.

I will, thanks for the help.  We go in to doc in a couple hours...Not showing any sign ear is aching so, maybe it's just some viral bug...Guess we'll find out soon enough!!

Went to urgent care...they're saying it's just a virus.  It's too early to check to see if it's flu.(but, that's not going around here yet) If temp doesn't drop below 101 with medicine by tomorrow we're going to head back that way again.
