3 year old's penis pain

3 year old's penis pain

Not sure this is the correct sections for this question, but this is the one that came up in the google search. Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it is to post somewhere else.

Once or twice over the past weekend our 3 year old uncircumcised son said that his penis hurts. He has been complaining somewhat frequently yesterday and today. It seems to hold onto it when it is hurting. It seems to be halfway down his penis. My wife says his cousin used to make the same complaint when he was young (he was circumcised). His mother apparently never had it looked into and he grew out of it. We have given him several Epsom salt baths since yesterday and he has had almost a whole bottle of cranberry juice. Most of the complaints seem to come when he is tired so I think the problem may be being overexagerated, but I think the problem is legitimate.

Basically I am trying to find out if this is normal or if it is something that needs to be addressed. What should I look for to tell if it is serious?

Do you not have access to medical care?

No,  this isn't a usual stage of growth.

BTW,  if you suspect some kind of urinary tract infection,  grocery store cranberry juice is the wrong way to go.  It's mostly sugar.  If you are paying less than about $20 a quart,  it's not cranberry juice.  It's sugar water with a little bit of cranberry,  which will increase a yeast infection.

AZO cranberry tablets are much better.

I am just trying to avoid taking him to Dr if unneccessary. I know that uncircumcised kids will sometimes have pain around this age as the foreskin starts to separate. I was just uncertain as to how to tell if that was what it was. We fall in the tax bracket where medical care isn't easily obtained because we can't afford to pay them, but too much to receive aid. His health is worth the trip to the ER (doctors require $ up front and we selfishly blew ours on food and rent), but a pragmatic approach to this situation seemed to be to speak to other parents of uncircumcised kids and see what to look for.

Not panicking has worked well so far. Despite having never been to a Dr outside of checkups he has never been sick more than two days.

We got him 100% cranberry juice. We have been label readers for a long time.

He may have a mild yeast infection you should definitly take him in so it can not develop into something worse and effect him longterm
