35w2d ~ Am I not supposed to be swimming???

35w2d ~ Am I not supposed to be swimming???

Hey ladies...I know you'll have a quick answer for me!  I came into work yesterday and told my office manager that I'll be out on Monday cause dh surprised me with a last minute trip to the beach.  She was excited for me - but said "You know you're not allowed to swim right?!" Um...nope...didn't know that.  She said it's b/c if I'm swimming I won't know if my water breaks?  I went to the doctor 3 days ago and he told me the baby is still really high and "not coming anytime soon".  So I was thinking that I didn't need to worry about that.  Then my bosses wife came in yesterday afternoon and we were talking and I mentioned how I was going to the beach and she said the SAME thing...that I shouldn't be swimming!  Doctor NEVER mentioned this to me.  Should I call him and find out for sure?  Does anyone knowanything about this?  Why wouldn't I be able to swim?  Isn't it better to swim than to get really hot?

I am 38 weeks, 4 days and have been swimming almost everyday.  I think you are only supposed to stay out of the water if you know your water breaks, but I know 2 girls who swam all day on the day they went into labor.  I personally think it is good for you.  I live where the temp is over 100 and that is the only way I have made it all summer!  Have fun!!

i asked my dr this several times during the last trimester, since swimming was the only thing that seemed to relieve some of my aches and swelling. everyone kept asking me if it was ok to swim. my dr said it was ok at my 34 week appointment and did not imply that i would need to stop anytime soon. i was swimming in a pool though. if i were you, i'd just call and make sure salt water is ok... especially after all these rains bacterial contamination of the water is a possibility (i'm sure you see on the news all the time that beaches around here close after heavy rains to to runoff and overwhelmed sewage systems). the other thing you want to consider is the possibility of being knocked around by waves.

Swimming isn't bad for you at all.  It's actually a healthy exercise!  Just make sure that you shower really well afterwards.  Enjoy your mini vacation.  I'm 38 weeks on Monday and DH is taking me to a pool to get some swimming time in, something other than hanging around the house thankfully!
