I was afraid to do this b/c friends told me it hurts so much but I had it done 1 week overdue and was fine. So I'm thinking pain has to do with how far along you are, as at point I was 1 cm dilatedDilated cardiomyopathy and about 75% effaced, but no luck with bringing on labor. I'm now 2 weeks overdue and OB didn't want to strip membranes again b/c now sac is so low so she'd break the sac doing that, and I'm now 3.5 cm and more effaced but still no labor and no baby! So, I'm being induced on Thurs. Guess lots of variability with stripping membranes though worth doing especially if close to due date or overdue, I'd say.
I had mine done 3 times with my last baby and still had to be induced, I would get strong contractionsFetal heart and uterine contraction monitor Fetal heart monitoring Tension headache after and they would come at a good pattern, once they would get to close to 5 min apart, they would slow down again and then stop. I almost went in to the hospital the last time they hurt so bad and were in my back, just like my first one with back labor. My contractions never stuck, but hte Dr. said I may have been admitted and helped along at that point. So I came close, but never put me over the edge, same with my first one, had them stripped from 37 weeks on and nothing then either, Hope you go soon though, good luck!
had mine done....ouch but anyways I went into labor that eve and had dd the next morning. I was 3 days over due though.
