38 wks /breastfeeding -pump questions

Ok ladies 2 wks left!!! I am having so much emotion. My pelvic bones hurt so much that sometimes I can't walk. Anyone know why? I also had the adversion and it has been a week and baby is still down !!!! My next question is I am not experienced with breastfeeding. I am a stay at home mom and have no idea what kind of pump to use. I would use it mainly for going out or letting my DD's or DH feed. What I don't understand is if I pump to go out will I have milk the next time baby wants to eat? Say baby eats at 11 and then I need to go out at 1 then when would I pump to have milk to go out and will I have milk to feed when I get home? I am so confused. I don't know weather to get a single electric or double pump. Or even maunual and what one is best. I already got a used medela ,but after researching more they are not recommended to be used by another person due to sanitary reasons. Then I bought the Ameda which I don't know if I need for my own situation as I am at home and only need to pump sometimes. I really need some advice on this. Talk about impulse buying!! I just don't know anything about it. I just want to purchase the right effective pump for me. Please help. I only have mabey 2 wks and I have no one to talk to about it. I guess when I am at the hospital, but I like to have everything I need on hand. Thank you so much in advance for your input. All your advice is greatly appreciated.

pumping increases your milk supply so you will have plenty of milk if you feed your lil one and then pump inbetween feedings for take along milk or to store for later use.  the more you pump or nurse the more you will be making.  pump on regular intervals to avoid becoming engorged.  for example, if you pump at night in between feedings you want to keep doing that or you will wake up in pain and the baby will have a hard time latching on.  I have a book somewhere, I forget what it was called but it had a lot of info in there.  as for pumps...i believe medela is the best.  can't you sanitize the parts??  i rented one from the hospital where i had ds, i wanted to make sure he would take to it before i put the money out.  good luck :)

at my DD 2 week check up i found out she was not latching correctly/getting enough milk.  It has been 3 months and I have been pumping exclusively since.  I was pumping whenever/as much as she would feed.  If she ate 3 ozs, I would pump 3 ozs.  I would pump until my body would get the requested 3 ozs.  You must be diligent and not give up.  It may take a couple days to produce what is needed.  Once she began sleaping through the night, I put my body on a regular schedule.  I pump at 6 AM, 11AM, 4 PM, and 9PM.  I get about 13 ozs of milk at 6 AM and between 7-8 ozs every other time (This is much more than I currently need so I usually freeze 8 ozs or so).  On average, I pump about 10 minutes each time.  I purchased a Medalea(SP) on eBay for $65.00.  I sanitized everything prior to usage but have definitely gotten my moneys worth.

Do you think the medela is safe to use once washed and sanitized well? I also have the Ameda which the parts can be boiled, but the medela can't be boiled and can also have milk back up into motor which cannot be cleaned. The Ameda does not have that worry. I don't know which one to keep. I got both for a great deal. So if I buy all new parts it still is worth it for the Medela. The Ameda is all new though. I really am having a tough time with choosing. So also from what I am understanding is even if I only pump sometimes and nurse most of the time should I still keep one of these electric pumps since I already have them and depending on which one i keep?! I haven't had the baby yet within the next 2 wks!!! So I guess you never know what they are going to do. The Medela  I got for 65$ and is in great almost new condition. The Ameda I got for 99$ New . My only concern is that the Medela can't be boiled and the ameda parts can. Also Ameda there is no milk back up in the motor and the Medela could get contaminated. Although ther has been no cases of anyone getting having a problem. Oh boy its a tough one.

I also was wondering I was diagnosed with kidney stones early on in my 15 wk. They are large enough not to be able to pass. If they started to pass I would have had a stint put in, but now I am to far almost due to have that procedure. However if they do start to pass and get stuck then I am not sure what might happen. If I can get through the next few wks untill I deliver then I can have them broken up with a laser. They have not given me a problem untill last wk. I am so nervous. I just don't want them to start passing. Anyone have anything similar. Right now it is just a dull ache in the kidney. Which is the same symptom that brought me to have it checked out in the first place. It has not bothered me in 4 months and now again same dull ache. Anyone with similar problem that got through ok?

hi I'm also 38 weeks I'm having the same pains to the point hurts to walk and nightime I wake up every 30 to hour to the restroom I'm feeling misarble I guess the baby is very low, now I'm starting to get cramping like periods anyways I'm looking forward to my due date,  with my second baby I never like to pump I only did it for my DH to feed my son who is 2 years old now,  but when I will go out if it was to the mall I will go to a dressing room and breastfeed in there or  I will go to the car and go to the back seat and breastfeed him.  You can also call your local Health dept and they always have lactitician to help they will give you and appointment you bring your baby and she will tell you the proper way and also they will give you a manual pump for free in my area I got the appoint and the pump for free and help me a lot I suffer for 4 months until finally I call them.  Good Luck.

Milk is a supply on demand kind of thing. If you nurse at 11, then pump at 12, then nurse at 1...you're body thinks it needs to make that much milk each time. I was soooo concerned about the same thing, but they cleared that up at my breastfeeding class. One other thing I learned there was that if your baby latches on PERFECT in the  hospital, they can probalby have a bottle at 2 weeks. If you have any troubles at all, you should wait until 4 weeks to intorduce a bottle. I was glad to have been told this because I planned to start pumping and letting my husband take part in feedings right away! Although...I do feel bad that he can't feed our little one for 2-4 weeks! I guess that's more excuse to make him change diapers....he'll need to have that father/son bonding time! LOL

As far as a pump, I have been advised to do the Medela pump in style by just about every nursing mom I know. My aunt go one off ebay and bought her own tubing. I think she had about $170 in it. Another aunt bought hers through her cousin who's a doctor and is letting me borrow hers. But they both swear by this pump. I have heard that alot of the pumps made by baby product companies (gerber, playtex, evenflow, the first years, etc) are pretty uncomfortable and don't always hold up! Not sure how much truth is behind that....but I'd rather not find out! lol

Good luck! :) You're soooooooo close!!!

I've heard the medela pump in style is the best pump. I bought the avent manual for myself because I rarely pumped but it was good for when I did pump.

I have the Ameda, it is a great pump. I also have the avent manual it's okay, but nothing like the Ameda. I have also used the Medela but for me personally The Ameda is the best.
