3rd Miscarriage...What now?

3rd Miscarriage...What now?

Good morning everyone,

Well, it's official... I've had ANOTHER miscarriage.  This is the third one I've had this year.  Even after taking baby asprin every day and taking progesterone supplements.  I guess it just wasn't meant to be.  It's kind of strange because I don't feel the profound sadness I felt with the last two.  Right now I just feel numb.  Kind of like everything was just a bad dream.  Strange.

My Dr. has recommended testing be done to see if there are any genetic abnormalities, auto immune issues... I agree that I should do these tests (I wish they would've done it last time), but I don't even know where to start.  Should I make an appointment with my ob/gyn or seek out a fertility specialist?  What is involved with these tests?  Do most insurance company's cover these tests?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks to everyone on this website.  I check in on this site everyday and it really does help knowing there are people out there struggling with similar problems and it's even better to hear the success stories!  ~****Baby Dust to All****~

I am terribly sorry for our loss.  I had two m/c and I know how you feel.  I will keep you in my prayers.  My Dr. sent me after my second miss for tests.  Chromosone test is done with the blood.  I think that's covered by insurance.  They also took a lot of blood from me and had me tested for everything, Lupus, etc.  I also had a scan of my uterus and tubes to make sure they were clear.  All came back fine.  I am now on Clomid first cycle and ready to try again.  I know how you feel.  I just want you to know that you can get pregnant, and that is half the battle.  They will find out what's going on.  You need to get some blood work done and get that scan.  It can be a hormonal thing.  See a fertility specialist.  It just so happens my Dr. is a Ob/GYN and a fertilty specialist, neoendocronologist, also.  I wish you all the luck in the world.  Just know that you are not alone.

I'm so sorry you have had to experience this.  I too just suffered my 3rd m/c in 7 mos.  My 1st being Mar 7th, then Jul 7th and then my most recent ending in a d&e on Friday, 9/29.

You are right...it's just a numbness now.  I am so numb...It's sad.  Really sad that I can't grieve for this baby.

It really depends on your insurance on what tests they cover.  I know infertility specialists are very costly.

I had a few blood tests run after my 2nd m/c and everything was negative.  I am awaiting the results of my d&e as they sent the tissue they collected to the pathology lab hoping for some insight as to why I've had 3 m/c (after having a completely normal and healthy pregnancy with the same husband 2 yrs ago)

Everyone has their own story and it is up to you on how much you and your family can endure moving forward.

My husband and I have now heard our FATHERS voice...it is not the right time for us to add to our family. Sometimes it takes great heartache to hear words of wisdom.

We have opted not to see a fertility specialist as us being fertile doesn't seem to be a problem....LOL, pregnant 3 times in 7 months...I just seem to have a hard time holding onto the baby.  There are so many reasons for that, we have just decided it's best for us to hold off.  Get through the holidays with our 2 yr old and then think about it again next year...(easier said then done).

Right now all you can do is pray, GOD will heal your heart and in his perfect timing make you a mother.
IT'S NOT BELIEVING GOD CAN IT'S KNOWING THAT HE WILL.

I'm not sure that easier is the right word, but I found that after each miscarriage, it was not as difficult to bounce back.  I was a mental wreck after each one but the duration got less.  After 3 miscarriages in fairly rapid succession, I am currently 19+ weeks pregnant.

The chromosome/clotting disorder/misc disorder testing is very extensive.  They take a ton of blood (12 viles from me).  Some is frozen, some sits and some is immediately tested.  My insurance covered the labwork 100%.  You would have to look at your plan to see if it does.

I met with a genetics counselor at a high risk specialist to go over family history etc.  I never went to a fertility clinic, I just worked with my regular ob and the high risk dr.  Generally fertility treatments are not covered under insurance.  I would suggest getting the chromosome testing and other lab works done first.  Depending on the results, maybe you would be able to work with your regular dr.'s.

Good luck.  I hope everything works out well for you.

Hi - I'm so sorry you guys are going through this too.

Do you mind if I ask how old you all are?  I'm 38.

I have had 7 miscarriags myself, just one daughter.  I've had all the tests...Everything came back normal.  They did a test on just one of the "products of conception." It had an extra chromosome. My doc gives me a 50-50 chance of having a normal preg.

I hear you on being numb. I've had six in a row in the past year and a half (my most recent was two months ago). I'm just now getting back to myself.  Actually, through this all I haven't been myself - just kind of blah.

Despite it all, I'm still not giving up on giving my daugher a sibling.  I'm testing tomorrow.

Please keep us posted.

I'm 35.

I really hope things work out for you this time.  Have you done any of the testing to figure out why you are having problems?  They chalked all mine up to bad luck.  All three miscarriages were for different reasons.

Thank you everyone for your very reassuring comments and helpful information.  Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone and that there IS hope.

I have scheduled an appt with my ob/gyn in early Nov to start some of the basic blood work that needs to be done.  She suggested that I wait to go to a fertility specialist until I know the outcome of the first round of tests.

Good luck to all who are TTC and I hope and pray everything continues to go good with your pregnancy dandeelyon.

Have a great weekend ladies.  ~*****BabyDust!*****~

Congrats on your pregnancy, by the way.  That's great.

Will you have an amnio?

I did with my daughter.  My first mc was caused by a CVS at 14 weeks so I'll never do that again.

I've opted against it.  I had the nuchal testing done at 11.5 weeks and everything looked good.  I just had my second level two and other then a calcium deposit in his heart everything was fine.  The dr. said the the deposit wasn't really a big issue.  I lost my last baby at around 14 weeks from downs.  It's hard losing one at that time (not like there's a good time) because you think you are in the "safe" zone.

Good luck again.  Thank you for the congrats.

I'm so sorry for your losses.  I just went through my 2nd.  My Ob sent the m/c tissue out for analysis and I'm awaiting results.  In the meantime, I've done a bit of research to prevent recurrence in the future.  Here's a couple of good articles to explain why m/c's happen and what testing can be done. I hope you find them helpful.

I'm sending positive thoughts to all of you who have had the awful experience of more than one m/c (1 is bad enough!).  May you all have healthy happy pg's next time around!

i know how you feel i have experienced 3 m/c this yr as well. the last one was 08/01/06. at that time my inf sp started the tests. they were all blood tests. i had the results back in a few days, except for the genetic test. i thought the 4 wks would take FOREVER. now i am supposed to start af on sat and then we will schedule an hsg, to look at uterus and tubes. i am ready to ttc again. i want to be pg and carry to term so badly. as for whether to go to inf sp, i have a great ob/gyn and inf sp. i think if your ins covers inf sp then go for it! i used to work for blue cross and i have noticed that more and more employers are starting to cover infertility, even if limited.

Hi - I've had them all.  Even a camera up my uterus.
In my case all the mcs were really early, and most were blighted ova so there was nothing to test.  My doc says I'm probably just getting old and that the eggs are genetically messed up.

If I'm not preg this cycle I'll have another FHS test, which shows egg quality.  It was normal in Jan., but my RE says that can change within a few months.

In a way it would be a releive to have it be abnormal.  That way I can move on and just be happy with my awesome daughter.

Do you have kids?

I recently had my 3rd miscarriage, 2 weeks ago, I was 18 weeks pregnant. It actually started off as a twin pregnancy through IVF but the twin only survived until 6 weeks. So I now hav 4 babies in heaven. Please get testing done!! You need to go to a reproductive endocrinologist. HAve them do all the tests they can do. I found out last time that I have a clotting disorder "anticardiolipin antibodies". We are waiting for the autopsy to come back to see if this was the cause. I was on baby aspirin and Lovenox injections daily. I am beyond devistated, but I need to urge you to be proactive!!! Research the best doctors in your area and tell them you want answers!!! Your knowledge is your best tool!!!
Good luck, and I am so sorry for your loss.
