My littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys guy had had some issues, he has pretty much outgrown the colicColic and crying Gallbladder disease, but the acid refluxGastroesophageal reflux disease Gastroesophageal reflux in infants Hiatal hernia repair Reflux nephropathy Vesicoureteral reflux is so bad that he is maxxed out on the medication he can take and it is still bad. He is now doing the projectile vomit thing again and wakes up from a deep sleep cryingColic and crying Crying in infancy becuase it hurts. I have been told it should get better, but he needs to be upright as much as possible, including sleeping. He did get RSV at 10 weeks old and never did lose the rattle in his chest, but it got worse last week. He began to wheeze the beginning of hte week and the nurse asked if I thought he needed to come in, I thought he should be okay as she told me to neb him again and see if it helps. By Thursday he was still wheezing and sounding worse so they wanted to see him. They said his acid refluxGastroesophageal reflux disease Gastroesophageal reflux in infants Hiatal hernia repair Reflux nephropathy Vesicoureteral reflux was so bad it caused RAD (reactive airway). He was put on Advair along with nebbing and they wanted to see if it got better. Could not get the inhaler Thursday, insurance required paperwork to authorize it and the Dr. told me they would take care of it, he should be okay overnight. That night he was coughing so hard and choking he turned purple and was foaming at the mouth. We ran through the battery of tests the next morning and the Dr. was upset, he felt it would not have bee nquite as bad if we had the inhaler. They dug around and found one to get us through till insurance kicked in, but I would have paid for it had I knwn how bab the night was going to be. Anyway, he tested negative for RSV, etc., but the blood work showed something was going on. We went back today to recheck and his oxygen level was 94, that's after 4 1/2 days with the inhaler and nebulizer. He lost more weight evne though he began solids and eats well, they think he's just working so hard to breathe. Anyway, they have referred us to a pulmonologist from out of the area. He comes into town here 2 days a month and we will get in in a few weeks, the Dr. felt it best to see him instead of any local ones, maybe he feels more comfortable with this one, don't know. Anybody been through this? My first baby had aspirated vomit at 12 weeks and got pneumonia then RSV twice but never had as many issues or was sent to a specialist. I'm worried for my little guy.
Poor little guy, he doesn't sound like a happy little camper right now. I don't know what to tell you about his lungs, but has he had an upper G.I. done for the acid reflux? Years ago when my son was 3 months old he pretty much had the same symptoms (severe projectile vomitting) anyway he was finally diagnosed with pyloric stenosis (narrowing of the opening from the stomach to the intestines), it's more common in boys than in girls. He had surgery to correct it and has been fine ever since.
They did a barium scan, actually they were checking his lungs when he got RSV, but he had taken his Prevacid already and as we were watching the screen we saw the barium reflux and come straight up. I will ask his Dr., we have to go in again Friday to check his breathing before the weekend. All in all he's been a trooper, still smiling and tonight ate a whole container of green beans. He loves to eat, it just doesn't like him. Thanks for your suggestion.
