Hi all!!!!  Happy New Year!

I have only had about 12hrs of sleep in the past 4 days due to ????  I don't know what.  My ds has not been sleeping at all!!!  He is like a newborn all over again.  He is up every 1 1/2 hrs and in between not sleeping he is screaming or fussing like crazy.  We have tried everything and only holding him for an hour plus puts him out and even then he only sleeps about 15 minutes.  Could he be teething???  Is this normal??  Please help, we are going crazy.

Try the book healthy sleep habits happy child...i swear by it..my first didn't sleep until 7 months old but the book helped me put her on a schedule-now she is two-takes a great nap every afternoon and sleeps 12 hours every night...good luck!

I would take him to the dr to check for an ear inection, and you could ty some orajel if you suspect teething, or just try some tylenol and see if that calms him.  Teething REALLY HURTS, and I always give my kids tylenol to ease their suffering when they are cutting teeth.  Especially the first ones - they are so little and cant explain themselves.  If you just started cereal, it could be stomache upset, gas, possible reflux or allergy to the cereal.  Try stopping it for a couple of days and see if that helps.  With mine, I started the cereal by mixing it with breast milk or formula in the bottle, a tiny bit at a time, and seeing how they reacted.  Good luck and Sweet Dreams!!!

thanks for the suggestions...we have had him at the drs....at least 1x a week for a cold.  he has had a slight fever on and off...even w/ all that he was still sleeping through the nite...(well not through the nite ever....but at least for 5hrs.) he has been on cereal for a few weeks already so we know that its not the cereal...he has started some veggies and some fruit and has been fine w/ all that...we just wondered if it could be teething or if it was a sleep disruption that may happen during this 4 to 5 month period???  You know how hard it gets after a few nights of no sleep??!!  But mostly we just don't want him to be suffering and we don't know what to do...we are at a loss. our dr is just like..."well, this happens w/ babies sometimes"....duh....but what can we try to help figure it out...I like to hear if anyone has gone through this is all...drs dont ever think that this is all new to the new parents..

My 1st dd was sleeping through the night by 2 months and the only time she ever awoke in the middle of the night was because of teething. At first I didn't know what the cause was of her night waking but after 3 or 4 days and a new, shiny tooth, I figured it out. She cut her first tooth at exactly 5 months.

If it was an earache, DS would be crying all day long and not just at night. It sounds to me like either teething  or tummy issues. Do try going off the cereal, at least at dinner time to see if this helps him sleep better. Or, u can always try a little tylenol to see of this helps. Sorry to be contrary, but I would steer clear of orajel as it has been know to be swallowed by babies, hence causing the sensation of not being able to swallow and/or breathe which will just make the fussiness worse.

Good luck.

Feel around on his gums and see if you feel any teeth starting to peek through.  Usually the front ones on the top or bottom are the first to appear.  When we have any problems with our mouth and lay down, that is when it hurts the most because the blood all goes to the head.  Talk to the doctor about giving him infant motrin.  If he is not old enough for that then give him some infant tylenol.  It doesnt work nearly as well as the motrin but it will help.  Good luck.
