5 W Pregnant - Question of Chickenpox

I am nearly 5 weeks prgnant and about a 1 1/2 weeks ago I visited my little sister. Only for an hour. But 2 days later discovered she had the chickenpox. What are the dangers to my unborn baby. Any had this happen to them. I had chicken pox as I child. Please help.

Also, what is a normal HCG level for 16dpo.

I did answer this last time. If you have not had the chicken pox yourself then it can cause serious problems in the first trimester. Birth defects are the most common. If you have already have them then you are at no risk as far as I have read. I looked into it because we have had a small epidemic where I live. If you have not had them I recommend seeing a doctor ASAP.

I don't think you can get chicken pox twice. I am 5 wks pregnant also. Are you experiencing any symptoms? If so, what are they?

I had the Chicken Pox when i was pregnant with my first son. But I had never had them before. I am not sure where I got them. But I caught it very early and I only had about 20. I was 5 months pregnant at the time. The Dr. told me that my unborn baby would never have to worry about getting them because he was immune to them since I had them while he was still inside me.

To answer your question about getting chicken pox twice, yes you can.  I had them twice.  I was very young though.  Three and six.  Usually your second case is not as bad but yes you can get them again.  Also those of you who have a child that had the shot (the vacinne for the chicken pox), they can still get them.  Two years ago, it was going around my sons school and 80% of the kids that got the chicken pox had the vacinne.

Wow/my kids 12 & 7 hav'nt got the chicken pox.D/h & I did.My neices got them but they did'nt, they were always together too!If they get them now are the simtoms worse?I heard the older you are the worse they get?Ohh.& about your baby being at risk no.Unless you hav'nt gotten them then you & baby could be at risk...nanis

You need to talk to your Dr about it....I know measles can cause birth defects, not sure about chicken pox.  I know when I had them my mom called the ER since I had them in my eyes and they said to come to the door and get someone and they would come out and treat me.  They said do not bring her into the ER because we have pregnant nurses working.  My hubbys cousin has shingles and is on bed rest for a week but it does not harm the baby in any way.

Oh yeah my hubbys sister is soon to be 33 and has never had chicken pox.  She can not be around any one that has them since shes never had them before.  The drs say it could kill her if she gets them ....dont know how true it is,..but thats what they say.

Yes, I have the symptoms, Sore boobs, slight nausea, and I cant stand the smell of meat, lol.I took 3 pregnancy tests, all positive, and each line darker to the previous. Wnt to the doctors on friday, and have results back monday. Fingures crossed, but I know its ok. Good luck to to Tam, hope everything works out. Whats your Edd.
