5wk nothing on tansvaginal US

I had a miscarriage Jan 06 no d&C required.  I am now pregnant 5w 1d.  I am worried because i have been having slight cramps.  I had a transvaginal U/S today but the DR saw nothing.  He told me to get my HCG checked today ( done) and on Friday and return for a repeat US in 2-3weeks.  Has anyone else had a transvaginal U/S show nothing at 5 week.  All he said was my uterus is retroverted and bulky (great). He said the uterus tends to be bulky in the early stages of pregnancy.  Any similar experiences

you say they saw nothing right? is there anyway they saw the gestational and yolk sac and just no baby? Because if that is the case the same thing happen to me at 5 wks 5 days i had to have my hcg checked and the first number was fine but when i got it checked a second time it had not doubled so i was worried. I went for a repeat u/s and they found the baby and nice strong heartbeat. i am now almost 9 wks. 5 wks is very early to actually see a baby on even a transvaginal u/s

I had an exp. very simular to Mary.  We saw only yolk sac - no fetal pole - at 5w1d, and I just went Thrusday for another us, which showed everything fine, almost 9w also.  As for seeing NOTHING, well, there was a woman posting here for a while who did nt find anything on us till 9w, and then they found the fetus, everything ok.  Could it be that you are not as far along as you thinkn?  Even being a few days off  can make a HUGE difference this early/.  Good luck!!

Is there any chance your date of conception is off?  This early on a few days could make a big difference in what they can see.  I hope everything turns out OK, but I think it's too early to worry yet.

At 5 weeks it may be too early. When I went for my checkup I was 5 weeks and the dr. told me that doing an u/s at that moment would be useless b/c he would see nothing, the following week when he did the u/s he saw the gestational sac.
Good idea to get bloodwork done to find out your hcg levels.

Thank you all for your advice.  Well my HcG is leaning towards 4-5 week mark.  So I hope that it was just too early.  As for the cramping it comes and goes.  it is not like period cramps...it is more pinpoint.  I am hoping for the best!

I agree with the other posters, and also your uterus being further back in your pelvis doesn't help things much.  5 weeks is really, really early (when you add those two things together) to see anything.  And if the embryo happened to implant a couple of days later than usual, then you're almost not even at the 5-week mark biologically no matter what the calendar says.  Incidentally, a retroverted uterus often tips forward into the normal position as the pregnancy progresses.  All the best, I'm sure everything is fine!

5 weeks is definately too early. My Dr. saw only a small dot, that he "thought" might be it. At 7 weeks, we saw baby and heartbeat. The hcg quant blood tests are the best thing to ease your mind right now, because it will show if are progressing.

Ok I like everyone else's posts better than mine, but I at least have to tell u about my situation.  January at 6 weeks preggo, got US done NOTHING. No sac, no baby, no ectopic. When I say nothing I mean nothing. Started cramping that day. Next day started bleeding and m/c naturally. Ok beginning of this month at 6 weeks, got US done NOTHING. No sac, no baby, no ectopic. NOTHING. Started cramping that day. 2 days later started bleeding and am now m/c naturally again. HCG levels were rising as normal. Progesterone looked good. Pelvic exam was normal. They have no explanation right now as to why absolutely nothing was seen on U/S. I really hope yours is ok. But yes if you are just 5 weeks, only a sac will be seen b/c more than likely your HCG levels are not above 1200 yet and they have to be for anything to be seen other than sac on U/S. If a sac wasnt seen God bless and I hope everything is ok. Please keep us posted.

Just an update.... Well my 2nd Hcg has doubled since two days ago ( the longest two days of my life!  I can't stop crying with joy!!!!!!   Thank you all for your kind words and advice.  My HCG places me at 3-4 weeks...so that's why there was nothing on the US!  Thanks again!!!!!
