by proudaddyof2, Mar 27, 2005 12:00AM
My daughter is five years old and is in hospital with a fever of between 38 degrees (c) and 40.1 (c).She has been there for almost a week  and nobody knows whats wrong with her.All urine tests come back clean all blood work has come back clean and a chest xray is fine. She is on I.V for fluids.Doctors are only able to keep fever down with tylenol. When tylenol wears off the fever returns. My daughter was vomiting until the I.V went in after it went in it stoped and has NOT returned. She has no diarreia, no pain with the exception of the odd headache.Viral infection has been ruled out, menengitas has been ruled out.Can anyone please help?

Sorry to hear that. When I was about that age I had the same thing for years after that to. They never figured out why but I grew out of them. I hope for the sack of your sanity they find something but on the other hand I pray nothing is wrong.

I have no help to offer you, I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you and your little one is having to go through this. Hospital stays at any age can be awful.
Best of luck and please keep us posted.

My daughter did this when she was 2 1/2.  She had fevers of 104 for a few days and then I finally took her to the dr.  Tylenol brought it down and then it spiked right back up.  When I finally got her in to see him it ended up being a bacterial infection.  He said if I had waited any longer she would have been hospitalized.  They ended up giving her a shot in each leg and that did took care of it.  I do not know what meds they used but it worked.  It was sad though because I just got off of work and my husband had taken her in and as I walked into the room there was a nurse on each side of her both sticking her thigh at the same time.  You may want to ask about that but if all of the urine and blood tests have come back I do not know what they can do for her.  Good Luck and I am so sorry you are going through this.   Take Care and let us know if they find anything out.

My son had this problem at 1 year old. He ran anywhere from 103-107 for a week and the docs didn't want to do anything, he ended up having menegitis. Some bacterias can do this and can't be found. Also you may want to see a nuroligist to see if anything is going on in the brain. If they have given her any antiboitic like rocephian it won't show menegitis.

Did your daughter have a vaccine just recently?   She might be having a reaction to the vaccine.  The second reason could be a virus she is fighting.  I hope that your daughter gets better.  I know how tormenting it is to see your little one sick.  God bless you and your family!

GREAT NEWS! My daughter was found to have the e-coli bacteria in her urine. They found it after the third urine test. Bad news is that she developed a kidney infection as a result. She just completed a ultrasound test and there was no damage(scaring) to the kidneys. Now they know what bacteria it is they are treating her with antibiotics. She will go home to more, as there is NO more fevers. Thanks to all for your posts!
