6month old not eating baby food only likes formula

by kris123, Dec 27, 2007 10:56AM
Ryan eats baby food here and there.  He doesn't like it but will eat it some.  My mom told me she just gave us formula till we were 1 year old.  Now I know I can't do this but is it ok just to feed him a little once a day.  He sees his bottle and goes crazy he laughs - it is the funniest thing.  He holds it now by himself and hates for anyone to hold it for him :-)
Also - anyone else have a demanding baby - he is so so demanding it doesn't bother me but man he wants what he wants when he wants it - I made a little song for him -

You want what you want when you want it
If you don't get it you cry untill you get

I need to add to it some but that is what I sing to him

My 7 month old is a bit of a complainer. It's funny sometimes but sometimes it drives us nuts.  When she sees her bottle, she cries.  I'm not sure why but, she starts to cry like we dont intend on giving it to her.
Do you give him cereal or rice or oatmeal?  I tend to mix fruits into her baby oatmeal/cereal.  She loves it.  She's not to fond of the veggies though, but of course, we give it to her anyway.
I would say, give it time.  I dont believe that my daughter was ready for baby food until recently.  When she started to stare at me eat, that's when I knew it was time.
What I started to do at 6 months was let her try things from my plate (if it's really soft and smooth).  Like for Thanksgiving, I let her try some yams, cranberry sauce, a tiny piece of stuffing.  She loved it.  And from then on, she pretty much wants to try everything I'm eating.  Just give it time and try things here and there.  He'll start getting use to it and stare at you eat soon..lol

This is so funny, yesterday, I was eating a lean cuisine pizza. As soon as she saw me eating, she stopped playing and somewhat crawled over to me. I was looking at the tv at the time. When I looked down, she was staring at me, smiling but with her mouth open..lol It was too too cute.

I wouldn't freak out, CJ did eat hardly any solids, literally, during his first year. All he wanted to do was nurse. Even now at 14 mos (tomorrow!) he still prefers to nurse over solids most days. He is 30 lbs!

And I agree, the fastest way to get CJ to want to eat something is for me to eat something. He likes his nibbles off of stuff that way.He chews well, understands how to chew and swallow correctly, he just doesn't want to if it is his own : )

I wouldn't worry about it just yet.  DD didn't eat solids well into her 10th month.  I didn't push it and wasn't really concerned.  She started showing interest and I just went along with it.  Like with everything else, I let her be my guide.

My kids were never interested in baby food.   They would occassionally eat what we were eating.
