6w4d no heart beat

by stlmom777, Jun 22, 2008 10:01AM
I had a miscarriage last year. My levels were as follows:
24 dpo hcg 2558 progesterone 6.2
27 dpo hcg 4400 bleeding started and put on 200mg of progesterone
31 dpo hcg 6,500
33 dpo hcg 9,000 ultra sound showed blighted ovum
34 dpo DNC

My current levels are:
16 dpo hcg 255 progesterone 8.2 – put on 200mg of progesterone
23 dpo hcg 3795 progesterone 25.5
26 dpo hcg 9160 progesterone 26.7
33 dpo hcg 62,000 progesterone not tested. Ultra sound showed a sac and a yolk sac. The tech couldn’t confirm that she saw a heart beat. When I saw my doctor after the ultra sound he said that a heart beat should have been visible by now (6w4d) and that I should be a little worried. I am to go back in a week to see if a heart beat can be found. My question is why would by hcg levels go up like they are supposed to if something is wrong? Can the progesterone pills be keeping me from having a miscarriage? Should I be worried? I have bad nausea, isn’t that a good sign?

both the rising hcg and nausea are a sign of pregnancy, but remember that even with the blighted ovum (I had one in January of this year, I remember how hard it was) your HCG levels can still go up, as it tricks your body into THINKING its pregnant.

I remember the first sono I had that showed the blighted ovum - I didnt believe it, thought that maybe I was just 5 weeks pregnant (even though I had known I was pregnant for 3 weeks). I waited a few days later and had my hcg rechecked and it had more than doubled and I KNEW the doctor was wrong. But sadly, they were not.

A fetal pole *should* be seen by 6w4d, but not necessarily a heart beat. I do not blame you for being worried, but your hcg levels are really good and as hard as it is, try to stay somewhat optimistic, and let us know what happened.

Im sure this post did no help at all!
