by ksmom, Nov 02, 2006 12:00AM
I know I've mentioned this a little before but I'm very worried this is my fourth and last pregnancy we're very excited but the doctor has me on metoprolol and the nurse said there hasnt been much testing done on this drug but my doc said its fine.My bp is great but I'm worried about the effects it could have on the baby.  Anyone have any similar experience w/ this drug or any other BP med.?

I take Methyldopa 250mg, I took it with my last pregnancy DS is healthy 4 months and am now 6w6d pregnant so....it was safe.

My mother has had a lot of heart probs so she knows a lot about bp meds and says that most are safe during preg and nursing, but any concerns like that you should ask your doc and pharmacist and decide from there. I have a drug book as well because I am a CRMA so I could look it up if I knew the name of the med. Best wishes and please ask prof regardless, preg is a delicate issue.

It is the ACE Inhibitors that are the problem.

I would trust that your doctor is up to date on this and put you on one of the "safe" drugs.  If you aren't sure if your doctor is aware of the recent findings you should talk to him/her.

You are on this medication for a reason, though.  The FDA is still only thinking about changing the warnings on the ACE Inhibitors.

I'm sure that your doctor has you on the right medication, but I would call and voice my concerns so that the nurse or doctor can put your mind at ease.

THanks so much for the feedback. I did call today to schedule an eariler apt. Metoprolol is a beta blocker which they say is "safer" for pregnancies.  But I know I'm going to worry the whole pregancy.  I'm going to discuss it with her on the 14th.  thanks again for the feedback. It helped.
