7 weeks and empty sac- scared and devastated

Hi All,

My wife and I went into the dr. yesterday because she had some light bleeding.  Mainly brownish in color and they said not to worry this is normal.  They did an ultrasound and based on my wife's last cycle (Aug 5th was first date of her last period) they said we should be about 7 weeks along but us showed only 5 weeks and an empty sac.  The doctor said that either the dates are wrong or it's a "bad pregnancy and try again".  We are both mortified as this is our first pregnancy.  We are both healthy 28 year olds who desperately want this child.  We have resigned ourselves to the fact that since we now the dates are correct we are probably going to miscarry.

Is there any hope this is not the case?  They took blood and she goes back tomorrow for 48 HCG level testing.  We won't get the results until Friday but we are worried sick right now.  Any help is much appreciated.

Im sorry you guys are going thru this... until they get the 2 blood samples to compare what your wifes Hcg levels are they dont know for sure, like the Dr said it could be one of 2 ways here, and maybe the date is off...

worst case scenario
- if it is a blighted ovum (empty sac) then there is nothing anyone could have done to prevent it, and yes you guys are young and the fact that you know you can conceive is a really good thing, this isnt anything you could control and it wasnt that her body didnt want the pregnancy it was just glitch in the egg that it didnt progress any further... it happens to lots of women and unfortunately its cruel to find out that the pregnacy you wanted isnt viable...but remember to support each other through this, you can handle this, and dont give up, when you are ready to try again... have fun, no pressure... it will happen..
