by sister of 5, Apr 16, 2007 12:00AM
Hello this will be my first pregnancy and I'm very worried, I went to my ob/gym last friday 4/13/07 and she did a vaginal sonagram and only saw a sac, nothing in it...She took blood to test for HCG and to see my levels, I went back in today 4/16/07 to have more blood taking for testing I will know something tomorrow.
They also told me the very first time I was seen that I was about 5 months pregnant they tryed to hear the heartbeat and couldn't so they ordered a sonagram to try to see the baby, the sonagram showed I was about 4 weeks pregnant so we think, now they are telling me I am only carrying a sac with nothing in it at 8 weeks, has this ever happen to any one else out there?
I'm also 15 years would this make a differenc also coulod it be that I am not as far along as they think and have a enlarged sac is that normal??
PLEASE ANYONE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS

I went for my first appointment on Friday, April 13. He performed a vaginal u/s and said that the sac looked good, and he measured the fetus to be about 7 weeks. He was not able to detect a heartbeat, so they drew blood for a hormone test, and I also had to go back today for the next draw. I will know tommorrow, but the waiting is so hard. I am 25, and my husband and I are expecting our first child. It's the not knowing that's the worst. Hang in there.

I had the same problem when I was pregnant last summer.  I, however, was spotting and bleeding some.  I went to the ER and I was supposed to be 9w and they only saw a sac and nothing in it.  The sac measured 6w2d.  They told me I had a blighted ovum and I was m/c.  I chose to wait it out because my hcg was going up but not much.  I went on to m/c.  A blighted ovum is where the sac grows but there is no baby - the body thinks that it is pregnant but it really isn't.  I'm not sure if this is going to happen to you, I am just telling you what happen to me.  If you aren't bleeding that is a good sign.  I am sorry you are going throught this.

thank you all again for helping me with this,i got my results back today and as of friday my hcg level was at 52,107 and mondays was at 61,971 is that normal?
my doctor told me if i was going to loose the baby my levels would be droping but as you see they are going up,i called another doctors office and made an apointment for thursday just to get a second opinion, my doctor is opting for a d&c and I don't want to have one until I know for sure what is going on..
so again my question to you is if i was going to have a miscarrage (miscarriage) would my levels be going up?

I am also having a similar problem.  This is our first pregnancy, I went for my first ultrasound on Monday and I was supposed to be 8 weeks 2 days based on my last period date.  I haven't had any vomiting morning sickness just a little nausea and other signs like fatigue, sore breasts.  When we went to the doctor she said that when she did my exam that my uterus did not feel the right size for me to be 8 weeks.  She did my ultrasound and she said that she saw a sac but there was nothing inside of it.  I really don’t feel like she looked good enough, she was very quick.  She sent me for blood work and my hCG level was 40,000.  When they called me back with my lab results the nurse said that MAYBE I am just not as far along as they thought.  I am going back for more blood work tomorrow to see if my hCG had doubled or not.  I have not had any signs of miscarriage, no blood no nothing.  She told me that I should expect bleeding and if I don't discard it on my own then I will have to have a D&C done.  I also have another appointment to see my doctor next Wednesday.  Before we even think about having a D&C we will get a second opinion.

I recenty was going through the same thing as you. I went in for a u/s at 9wks/2days and the u/s showed only a sac, with nothing in it at all. She did HCG test and they were rising but not doubling like they should. So, then i went back one week later and the doc. confirmed it to be a blighted ovum, and recommened a D&C , which i didnt do . The very next day i started to m/c on 4/01 and last night i passed the empty sac. I know this isnt a hopeful story and i know its the last thing that you want to hear right now.But you have to prepare for what may happen! There may be still hope for you and your baby. Just know that God does everything for a reason. I hope the best for you and your baby!

Sister - What did you find out??

When I went back for more blood work my HCG level had dropped to 39,788.  I went back to the doctor yesterday and still all she saw was a sac and she said that it measured 6 weeks.  This Saturday I should have been 10 weeks.  I had more blood work done yesterday and my HCG level had dropped to 28,821.  I have still not had any signs that anything is going on.  I have had no bleeding and I have been in no pain.  She advised me just to wait because my body should take care of itself.  It has been 4 weeks and nothing has happened and I don't know how much longer I should wait before we have something done.  She wouldn't really answer my questions she just kept saying your body should take care of itself.  I am very confused!!   I was just wondering what has happened with your situation.

i went to the hospital on friday with light bleeding im supposed to be 8 weeks and they did an internal and said my womb was closed which was a good sign and they done blood test, i went to have an ultrasound on monday which only showed a sac so they did more bloods. i got a call from the midwife who says my hormone levels have increased but the consultant thinks i've had a missed miscarriage, i am not having it removed i am waiting for a week to have another scan in the hope that the doc is wrong!
