8th week no fetal pole & Yolk but rising HCG counts....

by Swativk, Nov 07, 2009 01:25PM
I am 26yrs female from India. My first date of LMP was 8th of september. i went for first u/s on 27/10/2009  in which Gestational Sac of 19mm was seen(corresponds to 6wk6d) but Fetal pole & yolk sac was not seen. My Dr.told me to repeat the u/s after 5 days.My u/s on 02/11/2009 again showed gestational sac of 20mm with no foetal pole and the u/s person told me that i am having a Blighted ovum. I consulted wid my Dr.and she told me that before taking any decision we should go for 48hrs Beta HCG blood test.My HCG counts were 45704.1 on 03/11/09 and increased to 54180.9 on 05/11/09.after seeing my HCG reports Dr.suggested me another u/s which was done today in which Gestational Sac of 29mm was seen(corresponds to 7wk4da) but again Fetal pole & yolk sac was not seen.and u/s was showing my Gestational age(LMP) 8wk4d.and their impression was missed abortion. My Dr.has suggested me to again go for a HCG test on monday.
I am very worried and tensed i want to ask it is a misscarrige? if yes then how the size of the sac is increasing and why my HCG level is going up and there is no bleeding or spotting at all.......

The lack of bleeding and spotting is a function of your placenta, which is a separate organ.  Until the sac decides to give up its existence, the placenta is likely to continue to function to support it.  I do not know what to tell you about your high hCG counts.  Unless you have an ectopic pregnancy somewhere else in your body, it does sound like a blighted ovum.  Good luck, let your doctors be your guides.

Thanx a lot Annie for ur advice..I want to tell u that in my first u/s Dr. confimed that the pregnancy is on right place and it is not an ectopic pregnancy....

What I meant was, unless you have an undetected ectopic pregnancy somewhere else in your body along with the yolk sac that everyone is watching.  It is hard to square such high hCG readings with simply an empty sac.  That is all I was saying.
