9 days old and Endocrine Gland Issues Possibly??

by energy_train, Dec 03, 2008 08:05PM
Hi Girls,
Well, when Jett was born, he had a sacral dimple so we had an ultrasound today to check it out and make sure everything was OK.  I just got a call from my doctor, never a good sign at 7:30pm and he said that was fine but they found something above the one kidney that didn't look right on the endocrine gland.  His peditrician called Children's Mercy Hospital and spoke to an endocrinologist and they have agreed to see him tomorrow morning at 10am.  My doc. said that all 6 peds in their practice had never seen this before- great just my luck- and that basically it controls blood pressure and irritability.  He said if anything changed between now and tomorrow morning at 10am to go straight to the ER but that one of the endocrine glands was fine and that hopefully this will be nothing but he really didn't know.  I asked him if I should be worried and he said "Honestly, I don't know."  This is soo frustrating.  Jaden's still in his cast and we saw orthopedics on Monday and they said 6 more weeks of it. UGH....If anyone knows anything about the endocrine gland, please let me know! Thanks~

Ok I will be your best information on here. I have had problems with my adrenals since I was born. They eventually took them out. When the doctor told u if anything happened to go to the er.... he means vomitting and diarea (diarrhea). Problems with your adrenals are serious. I can die from simple things as a stomach virus and have to take meds twice daily. I have no idea what they found on his adrenal gland but i had tumors on mine. Don't worry too much and i didnt mean to make you worry just wanted to educate you. Ask me anything...By the way you have two adrenal glands.... one on each kidney. You can live med free with only one.

P.S. Your adrenals control MUCH MUCH more than BP and irritability. The control your bodys ability to fight when sick. It helps you handle stress. Without adrenals you would die within a day. Best bet is to do some research.

Jacob had to have that same test done because his little upper butt crack was asymmetric.

I don't know about endocrine gland but I just wanted to say how sorry I was that you, your son and your family are having to go through this.  I'm sure it will all be fine, but it is still hard to go through nevertheless.

Hang in there and take care.

His ped said that one adrenal looked completely normal it was only one that has something abnormal. They didn't say anything about a tumor and he said it could just be to rule anything out but I'm still freaking out.  I'll post when I get home tomorrow with more answers.  Darkestlight, thanks for the websites and your info.  Knowing you can live med free with one makes me feel better as one looked completely normal.  Are you more suseptable because you do not have any adrenals?  Just wondering because kids get the stomach flu all the time- mine seem to get it several times a year- which makes me very nervous.  I'm wondering if you have one that is functioning properly if that makes a difference.  I'm still praying it's nothing and they are going to have done this for no reason.  I'll keep you posted.

Having one that is working makes a world of difference.
I am extremely sucesptible to EVERYTHING. Since Oct I've had meningitis, a UTI, a sinus infection, and bronchitis, ALL in two months. Go figure. I manage though. I only had believe it or not one deadly stomach virus as a kid. I was 16 and didn't get to the hospital in time, had a seizure, and my bp was so low they didn't believe i could still be alive.
I'll keep u in my thoughts and prayers as i go for my ultimate u/s today.
