9.5 weeks, two sacs, one empty one with yolk and fetal pole

by Half-Pint, Oct 07, 2004 12:00AM
I am approaching 10 weeks pregnancy.  At 6 weeks had bright red bleeding, not heavey, for one day.  No clots and no tissue passed.  Ultra sound showed nothing and told had complete miscarriage.  Still felt very pregnant and went back week later for another ultra sound.  Told there were now two sacs, one empty and one with yolk and fetal pole.  OB said things were looking ok.  Went back again a week later at 9.5 weeks and told still empty sac and one with yolk and fetal pole.  She said that by now I should have a fetus in the one sac and a heartbeat and scheduled me for a D&C on Oct 12th.  I still have strong pregnancy symptoms and I am a little leary as to having the D&C as I have read so many stories of fetus and heartbeat not showing up until 10-12 weeks.  If anyone has a similar situation, would like to hear from you.  This is my 3rd miscarriage, one I had a missed abortion and had to have a D&C and one I miscarried naturally.

Go to this sight:

http://home.earthlink.net/~misdiagnosed/

There are many cases that will encourage you.  You can ask questions there too and we will be good about following up.  You have a very interesting case as some of the cases on the web-site above.  Sounds like you have a miracle baby holding on in there.  I would definetely not get a D&C except in extreme emergency such as extreme hemmorage.  Besides that, a D&C is harder on the body than a natural miscarriage and also a baby could accidently be aborted.  If you just ride things out, there will not be any what if I aborted a viable baby.  Three friends of mine lost a twin and ended up having the other one. In cases of twins, sometimes the sacks are not seen right away because of the angle of u/s being done at.  If the uterus is tilted, that will also affect the picture.  Let us know how it goes.  I have seen babies take up to 13 wks to be seen.

P.S.  A friend of mine was told that her baby had no heartbeat and later the heartbeat showed.  That baby is now 4 ys. old.  She was bleeding like a period and her doctor told her she was having a natural miscarriage.

Thanks Lovinmom for the advice. My husband and I have decided not to go ahead with the D&C and let things ride out for a couple of weeks.  I do in fact have a tilted uterus and all of the ultra sounds have been vaginal as they state they can see better with this when a uterus is tilted.  My next question is does Progesterone suppositories increase pregnancy symptoms.  I have been taking these since 5.5 weeks pregnant to help prevent miscarriage.  I wonder if this is why I have such strong symptoms still.

Progesterone can have some of the same symptoms as pg, but for me, I hardly had side effects. A little sore boobs, but once my pg was farther along, the sore boobs were definitely not from the progesterone.

This brings up a question that I've had lately. The progesterone can cause nasea, breast soreness and fatigue.  How do you know if the pg is causing the symptoms or the progesterone supplements?

by Half-Pint, Oct 11, 2004 12:00AM
I am so confused about the Progesterone and its symptoms.  I am waiting this one out, but I don't want to stop the Progesterone in case there is a viable pregnancy.  Was on Progesterone with my last pregnancy and had a full-term healthy baby girl.  Before that, I had several miscarriages without the Progesterone, so I don't want to stop it yet, however, I have read on other threads that Progesterone can delay an unviable pregnancy.  I am worried about this because if I am going to miscarry, I want it to happen naturally.  I have just had way too many procedures.  I have nausea, fatigue, killer boobs, headaches and mild pelvic cramping (which is always normal for me in the first 3 months of pregnancy).

I don't want to prolong the inevitable, yet I don't want to take the Progesterone away if there is in fact a viable baby hanging on.

It really sounds like one of your babies is viable.  I would hang in there.  I know that it is hard.  Let us know how it goes.  Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

I am doing my best to hang in.  Today was supposed to be my D&C but I cancelled it.  I am going to make an appt for another ultrasound in two weeks, that would put me at 12 weeks.   Surely by then a heartbeat should be seen if the baby is viable.  Until then, I know I just have to sit tight but man oh man is it tough. This has been a huge roller coaster ride.  Thanks for all of your encouragment.  Will let you know in a couple of weeks (or sooner if things start to happen).

I know how you feel.  Please just try to ride things out unless it's an extreme emergency.

I'm having a similar problem and need serious advice.  I found out that I was 6 weeks pregnant a few weeks ago.  Had no symptoms, but positive preg test and spotting.  I made an appointment with my ob for prenatal and told her about the spotting. She told me it was quite normal in early pregnancy unless I'm cramping and passing tissue.  I told her that the spotting was unusual because it was scant and brown. My hcg levels are gwetting higher each week.

A week later I cramped, but did not bleed.  I was seen in the emergency room and got a sono. The nurse told me that I had a 6.6 week gestation sac,but no fetal pole or heartbeat.  My dr is urging that I have a d &c immediately.  IO don't want to do this, but she telling me if I wait,I could have other problems that last longer as opposed to a d&c.  HELP, I don't knopw what to do.  This is my second sono where they found nothing, but a sac.
Please advise.

Thanks

My wife is bleeding bad clots and everything, we had our second ultrasound and the baby is growing like it should be the heart beat is148 but the doctor says the sac is small, she does not go into any other information about it, she does not know where the bleeding is comming from. We have a beautiful 4 year old boy, we have been trying to give him a brother or sister for a few years now and had 2 misscarriges after our son. Any advice would be helpful.
Please email with any advice so I can show my wife,

I am 11 weeks and had an u/s at 10.5 weeks that showed two sacs and just one baby with a great heart beat and movement. my doctor stated that the other sac would be absorbed  over time. my opinion is why are so many doctors pushing d/c so soon. If one twin wouldn't have develpoed they would be telling me to d/c but nature should take care of it. wouldn't nature take care of it anyway? I'm suppose to have another u/s in a month. I'm praying that a second baby was just hiding but I will leave it in God's hands. ..But  I can't help we be sad for the lost of one.
