When was your period due? If you've already missed it by more then a week then the pregnancy test should be accurate. At 16 your period can be very irregular and stress can cause you to miss your period as well. Best thing to do is wait a week and retest if you still dont get your period. If still negative then contact your doctor. Also you may want to talk to your mom about getting onto some type of birth control if you are planning on being sexually active.

The best way for you to find out is to get a blood test done, I was 9 weeks pregnant before my pregnancy test showed anything with my 2nd child, I had low HCG levels which are the hormones that are detected in the test to tell you you are pregnant, sometimes though, a blood test can come back inconclusive, which is not positive but its not negative either. Try that and see, but as Alaysha said you should get onto birth control and also think about using condoms, because in this day and age with std's, birth control is only one thing you have to worry about, once you get certain types of std's you cant get rid of them.  Hope that helps and if you cant talk to your mum, try a friend who has a helpful mum.
