ANNOYING!

Can I just say that I find it extremely annoying that the medical community can't agree on when it is OK to get pregnant after a miscarriage. I have read you should wait 3-6 months, I've read that you don't have to wait even one motnh....I have read that you should wait only for dating/emotional purposes and I have read that some docs think your chances of MC increase if you don't wait. ARG!  I feel like if your chances of MC truly increased by not waiting than the data would be conclusive and all docs would agree. Just thought I'd vent.

To me it sounds like, if they cant agree on how long to wait then there probably isnt any good evidence that your chances of mc are up right after a mc. Doctors dont know EVERYTHING so its hard when your wanting them to tell you the right thing to do.
Good Luck.

From what I have read it says after you have 1 or 2 regular cycles to make sure your hormones are where they are suppose to be. Good luck!

I don't think it's carved in stone anywhere.  If there was strong evidence one way or the other, there would be more consistent advice.

i dont know if this helps but my mom had a mc then a month latter she got preg. with me and everything turned out fine. if you want to know my opnion i think that there is not appropiate waiting time otherwise all the facts now matter where you heard them from would be the same. i was told 3 monts as well but if you get preg before then that wouldnt increase your chance of another mc again. hope this helps.

I agree-every Dr has a different opinion on this. My mc was a little different, as it took me nearly 8 weeks to pass everything on my own, therefore making me unable to get pregnant.
BUT, as you have passed everything, as verified by your US, I think you need to just go with your gut. I was very anxious to try again also. My family doc suggested waiting one cycle for timing the pregnancy, and also to ensure that the uterus was smooth and free of adhesions. I went with that advice, but problem is, it took 8 weeks to get a normal period. But, on the bright side, I did get pregnant that cycle (4.5 weeks now).
I have also heard many women who get pregnant without ever having had a period after the mc. My theory is-if your body is not ready to carry a healthy pregnancy again, then it won't let you. Therefore, if you feel emotionally and physically ready to start again, then I say go for it. I know not everyone feels this way, but you have to have faith that you will become pregnany exactly when you are supposed to.
I went through 2 months of grappling with this, and finally let go and let nature take its course.
Best of luck, and again-sorry about your loss.
PS Venting is VERY healthy-vent all you need to! There's always someone here ready to avoid work, chores, etc!

Hi ya,
I miscarried 27 September, have had a normal period (not really through want of trying!) on 27 October and am now trying to chart ovulation so that I can try again.

When I miscarried the doctor asked me to wait for at least one normal period before trying to fall again.  I asked why, she replied that it was mainly to do with dates and nothing physical and enabled them not to get confused about dates if I fall straight away!!! So I can see why you're annoyed, its a matter of confused? you will be!!!

I'm trying to suss out this bloomin temperature thing, are you ovulating when your temperature drops and then climbs or on the rise? How long does it take to complete an ovulation cycle? Getting fed up with jumping my partner's bones every night!! Joke!  This is the first time I've done this and am charting my temperature every morning, my period is due 24th November, can someone explain please if they have the time, thanks X

I have never been good with the temp thing either. I THINK that when your temp spikes, and then drops, you are on you way yo ovulating. Hope it's not too much TMI, but being able to detect when your cervical mucus is thicker (kinda like egg whites)is said to be a key also. It worked for me three times.
If your cycles are a standard 28 day variety, you may also want to check this out:

I used this to help me narrow down my most fertile days, and then when I got the sticky discharge (again, sorry for TMI), then I attacked my hubby! We only bd' twice in that time frame, so something from this combo must work!
Best of luck to you-hang in.  Glad to hear your hubby is su supportive with you jumping him every night LOL!! :)

The best suggestion that I can give regarding when to start TTC after a miscarriage is to just calm down, wait and let nature take its course.  Waiting at least a cycle does help your system to cleanse itself out and helps in healing.  After that, I would just enjoy being with your husbands and try not to pay too much attention to all of the specifics (like charting and temperature). I think that tends to drive you crazy.

Our minds have a way of playing weird tricks on us and the more stressed you get about trying to get pregnant, the less likely it will happen.  When you least expect it and when you just enjoy youself and not pay attention to all the little symptoms, it will happen.  Just have faith.

gillian and carolyn,  I strongly suggest that you get the book "taking charge of your fertility" if you have not already done so.  It is a very comprehensive book with regards to charting temps etc.  I have been charting for 11 mths and I haved never had a spike before ovulation (my temp has been high prior to o but it is usually because I have had poor sleep etc..
