I don't know, but I always get pregnant before my milk dries up. I nurse my babies for a year and then as soon as I have a period I get pregnant. If you have started a cycle again you should be able to get pregnant.

That seems like sort of an odd response from your OB,  doesn't it?  As if you're purposely lactating and if you'd just cut it out,  you'd be able to get pregnant.   Not very helpful.  : (

You may want to get an endocrine workup,  and check your prolactin levels and other hormone levels.  Excess prolactin can often be treated.

Best wishes.

Im sorry but that just doesnt at all sound right.  Only if you are EXCLUSIVELY breastfeeding are you ALMOST  always not going to get pregnant.  If your son is 21 mos. he MUST be eating some form of table food or babyfood, and you are not even nursing him now. I/ve had 5 children, my first one 10 yrs ago, and my milk has never been gone.  I've almost always conceived while nursing, but sometimes not until after.  But I have ALWAYS had milk.  I could squeeze some out right now (TMI I KNOW) but honestly, your OB sounds like from my grandmothers era when they mostly went by old wives fables.

If you are ovulating you can get pregnant, if you are not ovulating *they should be able to find out why*.  In either case, I dont know if youve studied up on the chances of conceiving a baby when everything is normal, but your best bet is to trust in God and let your desires be made known to Him.  And get a different dr;)

I hope this doesnt sound sarcastic but I just cant believe there are drs out there still teaching these things to their poor patients who are trusting in them to help them conceive.

***God Bless you***
Jennifer

Jennifer - prolactin disorders,  that cause women to produce breast milk long after (or even in the absence of) a nursing baby make it difficult to conceive.  Prolactin is the hormone in the body that causes the production of milk,  and the endocrine system can get out of whack and just keep producing milk,  and making it difficult to conceive.

Just so you don't think you are weird, I have a friend with 8 children.  She nursed them all and got pregnant several times while still nursing.  At one point, she was nursing her newborn and toddler.  She is a big advocate for nursing and believes in doing it for 2-3 years.  To each their own.

Hey, I just reread my post, and I wanted you to konw, that when I said it didnt sound right, I meant her dr, not you, but now what you told me makes sense.  Just wanted to clear that up, we mustve posted at the same time and it seemed like I was responding to yours:)

You can definitely get pregnant while lactacting.

Ice packs will help dry up your milk.

The drugs are a poor idea as they can effect how well you produce milk for future babies.

If I understand your question, you'd like some relief from the pressure in your breasts. 12 years ago I got this from a doctor and I'd never had believed it but it works like a miracle!!

Get a head of cabbage and place a leaf in each cup of your bra. You will immediately feel better. The cabbage draws the fluid and cools the skin. Greatest home remedy I ever used.

My doctor told me to use a leaf of cabbage on each breast to dry up my breast milk.  She said it was a old wise tale but found it to be a remedy for drying up breast milk. I now have a leaf on each breast, as pray it works quick fast and in a hurry....

OLD TIME STORIES IN THE OLD DAYS THEY USE CABBAGE TO DRY THE MILK OUT OF THERE BREAST OR USE A WARM TOWLE  THAT WILL FIT AROUND YOUR CHEST AREA OK.

I read your question and when I tell you my answer, you'll probably think I'm nuts but I SWEAR by it and all of the women in my family have used this technique and it has ALWAYS worked. If you buy cabbage and put a cabbage leaf in your bra over each breast, they will dry up. The cabbage leaves have some kind of chemical in them that stops your mild from producing. I swear it sounds crazy but it REALLY REALLY works. I breast fed all 3 of my girls and used that technique EVERY time. I've even given that advice to friends and now they swear by it. It can't hurt to try it and please, let me know how it works out. I can almost guarantee you that it will work. Give it about a week. You'll need to change the leaves about 2 - 3 times a day. I can't wait to hear back from you and I hope this works for you like it worked for me, my friends, and my family:)

i dont think it will keep comming for as long as your husband ***** on them. i think they will eventually dry up but its normal to actually leak milk for years after having stopped breastfeeding
