Abnormally High HCG

by Lillyleaf, Sep 25, 2004 12:00AM
My first pre-natal was last week at 7w5d. I have had 3 prior m/c and have spotted 3 times in the past 4 weeks. Dr. said uterus was measuring small for those dates, so we did an ultrasound.  We saw the baby and heard a heartbeat (146bpm)! The ultrasound put the baby at 8 weeks.

When we got the bloodwork back, my hcg was 155,000. This seemed high to me even though the labs normal range allow for up to 229,000.  No one I have talked to had that high of an hcg at 8 weeks. My concern now is that I've read partial molar pregnancies often present like this - smaller than normal uterus, intermittment spotting, and high hcg.  Does anyone know of another reason the uterus would be measuring small and whether others have had an hcg of >150,000 and still had healthy babies?

Thanks!

I don't know what mine was at 7w 5d but at my blood draw on 9/10 when I was 6w 5d it was 90,553.  Even though it was in the range it was on the way higher side !  Now I am 9 weeks and I've been able to hear the heartbeat via doppler since 8w 5d.  Check out this website www.betabase.info  its pretty neat.  Shows the ranges of singletons and twins based on what #'s people enter for their pregnancies, this is going to be for published statistics.

My hcg at just about 5w 5 or 6d was around 30,000.  So by 8 weeks, my hcg was probably as high as yours if not higher.  I worried about it needlessly and I now have a healthy baby girl (7.5 months old) so I'm sure you're FINE!  Incidentally, they say girls have higher hcgs than boys, statistically speaking so I bet you have a little girl in there :)  Good luck to you!
