Accuracy of ultrasounds in determining gestational age.

Im 31 weeks pregnant and to say the least [freaking out] my cycles have typically been normal and i have a daughter in which i conceived by predicting my ovulation time. now im pregnant with a son. unfourtunatly im fearful of who the father might be. the first day of my last period was may 23 2008. i had an ultrasound and it determined that i was due february 27 2009. at that point the baby measured 11 w 5 days. this would have put my conception on june 5th or 6th. i was with my boyfriend may 28th thru june 11th in which we had a falling out. however on may 26th which was the last day of my period i had a sexual encounter with a different guy. on june 12th i also had an ecounter with one of my exes. [i was with this ex 2 years earliar and we tried to have children for a year but due to cancer the doc told him he probably wouldnt have kids.] my doctor told me not to worry. he said it wa very unlikly that i conceived on the last day of my period cuz it would have thrown the EDD off. he also said the ultrasound coinsides with my LMP. and if i would have conceived on june 12th that would have been 21 days from the first day of my LMP which would make my due date sometime in march 09. im scared cuz i got a 3D ultrasound of the baby and his face doesnt really look like anyone i know.

I take it your boyfriend does not know you had sex with two other men, right?

Firs, you can not telll who the baby looks like from an ultrasound picture.  

Second, babies looks can change over time, my baby was born looking more like me, as time passes she looks more like her Daddy.

Your best bet is to get a paternity test done.  But your doctor is right, it is HIGHLY unlikely that you conceived on the last day of your period.  I can't believe the guy didn't use protection knowing you were bleeding!!  Yuck!

Well during all this time we were having a lot of problems and technically we wernt 'together'. when i told him i was prego again i staight out told him i wasnt sure if it was his but i didnt tell him who i was with. i did tell my doctor about the situation and he told me not to worry about it cuz his ultrasound in the first trimester is pretty accurate. with my daughter he was only one day off as far as gestation. [he said i conceived her on dec 2nd and i say i conceived her on the 3rd.] thats how close he was. im pretty sure its my boyfriends. i guess im just looking for some reassurance.

Does it matter to him if he is the father?  Sounds like,  you were not in a relationship with him,  and were at the time dating other guys without any constraints on your relationship - and by the time you developed a committed relationship with this one guy you were already pregnant.

I agree,  of the three men,  it does sound like you became pregnant by the one who later became your boyfriend.  

But,  as BH says,  if it matters at all to anyone,  you'll have to get a paternity test to determine for sure.  BTW, fetuses don't usually look like adults.

Hi,
I'm sure it took some courage to admit permiscuity in hopes to retireve an answer or assistance. I do wish you all the best in your pregnancy no matter who the father might be. Really, the bottom line here is that you are that childs mother and whether there is a man in the picture or not, that child is going to depend on you to be there for it.

I do however suggest a paternity test. You can even get inutero paternity tests now days if you need to put your mind at ease before the stork delivers. I am having troubles with the doctors so called gestational age estimates as it will determin whether I should be able to see a heartbeat for my twins yet or not. So reassurance wherever you can get it, is always a good thing.

yeah it matters to him cuz we have a 16 month old daughter together and he doesnt want to raise someone elses child. i can see that side of it but i continually wonder why he wanted to try to work on the relationship before the baby was born. i just feel like if it isnt his we would have wasted all this time....and we are very close now. hes already said we couldnt stay together if it wasnt his.

What does he expect you to do if this new one isn't his?  Put him up for adoption?  Let him leave and take his daughter?  Raise her without the presence of her father?

He sounds like a complete jerk to me,  roundtwo.  I don't understand men who refuse to live in the same house with a child who isn't theirs - think of all the men who adopt or are in your situation where you break up and then get back together,  and got pregnant in the meantime.

Yeah he said he would take our daughter....something about me contaminating his family [in those words] but the way i see it is that we wernt even together at the time...just doing the deed i guess. i asked him how he could just leave me after how good its been....how it would be just that easy. i know he wouldnt get our daughter tho. i just pray its his but everyday is difficult and i think about it all the time. i wonder why we didnt wait till the baby was born to try to work on our relationship. i would never get rid of my kid over some guy. [o n he thinks it would be ok if we broke up and he had a kid with someone else but not for me...what a laugh]
