Adnoids

I have a 5 yr old who has been having breathing diffuculties for the last 3 yrs,its worse during her sleep.We have been to an allergist,3 ENT Doctors and finally we just found out its her adnoids,there 90% enlarged. My question is ,"Is it possible for adnoids to grow this fast within 3 months?" The reason why I'm asking is because we had taken her to an ENT doctor back in November/2003.And we were told she has seasonal allergies and her adnoids are slightly enlarged.Treatment- 20 days on penicillin,to shrink the adnoids,and nasonex spray,to help the breathing during sleep. None of this helped her,so we went to go see the same ENT doctor yesterday and now he's telling us her adnoids are 90% enlarged and they need to be removed.(tonsils are normal)But she is also starting to get fluid in her ears,(said he would drain them while doing the adnoids)Do you think she was misdiagnosed 3 months ago,or is it possible for adnoids to grow that fast? We are still taking her for a second opinion.

I'm in the same boat as you..so don't have any answers.  My two older sons have been referred to an ENT specialist.  They both have breathing problems and may have sleep apnea, enlarged tonsils and adenoids (adenoids).  My middle one is doing the peak flow meter to moniter for a couple weeks as well as zyrtec, flonase and my older one we are just taking to the ENT.  So, i'm not sure all the how's what's but i'm in the same boat as you.  My middle one (9) coughs a LOT and my older one coughs so much junk up that he makes himself throw up sometimes.  My concern is that in 11 years nobody noticed anything? so, let me know how things go with you!

I know what both of you guys are going though.  My son is 2 years old and in two days he is having his adnoids taken out.  He is on his second set of ear tubes.  He has had choric ear infections since he was 3 month. I know of at least 20.  He has been dignosed with RAD.  He also has chroic sinus infections. We have tried it all, all the antibotics, zyrtec, atuss, three or four nasal sprays.  Nothing has seemed to work, so they beleive taking out his Adnoids will help with everything. I hope so.
