Advice for traveling with infant

Advice for traveling with infant

I've traveled with older toddlers but never with a two month old.  Any advice on what to bring would be really appreciated.  We flying to Florida next week.

I don't have any advice for you, but I'm interested to hear what people have to say.  I live in CA and I have family that lives in FL.  We plan on traveling with a  3 1/2 month old baby to FL over Thanksgiving and I'm already dreading it.

Hopefully people will have some good ideas and tips.  :-)

Try to fly at a time your infant is normally sleeping.

Ask for a roomy aisle.

Take soothers as they help with the ear pops.

Does anyone know if formula is allowed or do they treat it like a suspicious liquid?

I had to fly w/my 3 1/2 mo dd in January by myself (pain) and she was exclusively b/f.  I brought canned formula just in-case of feeling uncomfortable in my seat. I brought apple juice just in case I needed to dip her minnie in it to suck on during take-off. I nursed her really quick in a family bathroom before I boarded and to my SURPRISE she fell asleep right after take-off and woke up on landing. There is a changing table above the potty in the restroom of course she pooped on the way home. The lady who checked me in at the gate on the way home said, just keep her in the carrier, flight is not full and I'll give her, her own seat. That was nice too! Good luck!

Will you have a bed for the baby available for you? We cared for our foster daughter from birth until her first birthday. We traveled when she was 1.5 months and took the incline foam that she slept on, blankets, bottles, bibs, sterilizer, diapers, wipes, a portable changing pad, a couple of pacifiers, and that was about it. My brother-in-law had a baby a month older than her, and they brought a swing, bouncer, soother massager chair, more bottles than I could ever imagine, pack 'n play, high chair, and tons of other stuff. We like to go with the less is more idea ... we were only gone for 4-5 days and didn't need any of the big stuff because she could lay on a blanket on the floor and play or be held by family or ourselves. It would perfectly having a lot less, but you could always take a pack 'n play or something if you need a place for her to sleep. Since she wasn't mobile yet, we actually put the incline foam on the top of the pool table and she slept up there with pillows/blankets around her in the event that by some miracle she learned to roll. It was precious!

I am sure you can take formula, check with your airline first though. Best to take the ready to use cartons/tins, that way they are sealed (less risk of anything dodgy from the airlines point of view) and you only open them when you need them.

Thanks, I am bf so no bottles necessary and she takes a pacifier.  It is only a 3 hour flight and I also don't want to bring too many things.  She can sleep with me and I will bring her stroller and car seat.  Did anyone travel with the infant seat and the stroller to the gate?  I guess I will take my sling.  I don't recall Southwest having a changing table in the bathroom, last time I flew she was in my tum at 26 weeks.  I guess she will have to wait to be changed until we land.  Hopefully she will sleep.  We are leaving at 7 pm which is usually the cranky time of day, but she is not set on a schedule so by next week that could change.
