All Day Long Sickness

by cantwait4baby, Oct 21, 2008 08:20AM
Hi Everyone - I am not new to this pregnancy stuff.  My first pregnancy was full of complications and at the same time I had morning sickness every single morning up until 8 months.  Well this pregnancy I have all day long sickness but THANK GOD no complications.  Everything is going great other then the fact that I cant function.  I actually get sick every morning and then feel sick the rest of the day even during the night.  I cannot hold my bowels and I swear I am going to by depends just in case - I am so afraid of an accident.  (Last pregnancy I never went go figure)

Anyway, having a 17 month old at home and a fiance that leaves for work before I get up it is very hard getting my day started and I work full time.

Can someone help - will the doctor give me something if I ask and if they do is it safe?  I am happy I am sick because it is a sign of a healthy baby but all day long is killing me.  My poor daughter comes in the bathroom with me so she had no idea what is going on and starts crying because I scare her.

There is a wrist band you can wear that some ladies swear by--called SeaBands.  I think CVS or any old drugstore sells them, with the motion sickness products.  They just put light pressure on the motion sickness "points" on your wrist, as in accupressure points.  They can't hurt, and might help.

YES!  The doctor can recommend things for you to take that are safe.  Be sure you emphasize how ill you are, and you aren't just whining about a little nausea.

Its not normal, what you describe about your bowels.  Let them know that, too.

My last pregnancy they had to give me somethign to go to the bathroom this time I cant stop.  I did tell him last week when I was there but he said I might be comign down with a bug that is going around but I dont think this bug would last this long.

My baby is 6weeks 4 days and has a heartbeat - I had an ultraasound Saturday.

Thanks for the wrist band idea - I am going to stop there on my way home from work to see if it helps.

Call first to see if they have the SeaBands....you might have to try more than one place.  I think they still sell them.

Sorry you are feeling so bad Kim. I would try the Seabands. I have seen them at CVS before. I would call the doc and tell them about the loose bowels all the time. Maybe that part is just a wicked stomach virus. There is one going around, I have seen alot of students with it. I was sick all day when I was pregnant with Avery but I rarely vomitted, just felt like I was going to, all the time. It only lasted about 3 months though. Good luck and keep me posted.

I know how you feel.  I have 5 kids and I get super sick everytime.  It's just awful while you are going through it.  I have heard good things about the wrist bands as well, but have never tried them.  I'd try them though.

And like peek said, you can ask for something from the doctor also.  My doc gave me a prescription for Phenigran (sp???).  The only problem with it was it made me really sleepy.  It will knock you out which wasn't good for me as I get really early for work.  But I have also heard that Zofran is great.  I haven't tried that one, but heard really good things about it from other women.

I also found some tea that is Ginger/Peach tea.  It's made by The Republic of Tea.  You will have to go to a bigger grocery store for that though.  You won't find it at a tiny store, but the ginger really helps to settle the stomach.  It does have caffine, but small amounts of that are okay and it did help me.

Also the holidays are approaching and during the holiday season Blue Bell makes pepermint ice cream and it helped me some too.  It was light and refreshing and the extra calcium is good for both you and baby.

I hope you feel better soon.  I know it's miserable :(

Phenergan will made you super tired!! I would not take this unless absolutely necessary, it is a category C drug. Zofran would be a better choice, it is a category B drug.

They use both all the time in pregnancy.

I have been on Zofran but it still hasn't helped. 32 weeks and still vomiting nearly every time I eat. One of my co-workers lost 70 lbs when pregnant due to her severe vomiting. Some people just have it worse than others.

Zofran is expensive, I have heard that a lot of insurance companies want you to try Phenergan first (despite the drowsiness it causes) and then if you fail you can get approved for Zofran. If you paid for it out of pocket, it would be about $900 a month!

Good luck. The only thing I've found that marginally helps is eating tiny bits all day long rather than trying to have "meals"

Thank you all, I wrote down the names of those medications, I need to stay away from the sleepy one just because I have a 17 month old too.  I just called my doctor but he is not back until tomorrow at 2pm.

I love my doctor - but I have to move on to a new doctor becasue my doctor cannot deliver anymore.  Here in PA there are insurance issues and a lot of our hospitals closed including mine.  So I am in denial but do have an appointment with my new doctor at the end of November, in the meantime I will keep going to my old doctor.  He can treat me he just can deliver me.  This is why there is not an on-call doctor to give me the meds.

I was told by someone I trust that she got HUGE relief from morning sickness by going to an acupuncturist who specializes in female issues.  It might be worth looking into, if you can find a good acupuncturist.  I know it sounds flaky, but I had an acupuncture treatment recently for a shoulder muscle pain that I have had for years, and it went away.  So maybe this stuff really works.  And wouldn't it be great if it worked for morning sickness and you didn't have to go on meds?  Good luck --

i used the wrist bands for my all day long sickness and it took the edge off.  i also found that for me, sucking on a sweet candy helped.  stay super hydrated if you can!! i found that the V8 splash juice over ice helped.  i dont know why sweets helped but its worth a try!

there is nothing flaky about acupuncture, i know many people that have found relief from different things bothering them.

so im going to guess another girl with the sickness? what was the heartrate?  i want to guess haha.  i actually think boy for you and i have been right with most so far!!

by cantwait4baby, Oct 22, 2008 07:18AM
I am was only 6 weeks and the heartrate was 104, it will go up as I get further along.  My dd was always 144.

I could not find that band and I think I may very well die today.  I go from throwing up to going #2 back and forth it is such a horrible feeling on my belly.  THANK GOD - no complications still.  With dd sometimes when I would get sick in the morning I would spot and panic.

I got to work and ran in the bathroom.  My doctor comes in at 2 today.  He has to give me something I cant take this anymore.  My poor dd needs me and i cant be there for her.

by cantwait4baby, Oct 24, 2008 08:08AM
Well, yesterday I thought I would die on my way into work the cramps from having to go to the bathroom and the nausea, I had to rush back home and as soon as I go to the bathroom the pain subsides but the nausea is still there.  My doctor had no choice but to call me in something.  He called me in Metoclopramide (reglan) Cat B.  It is taking the edge off of the nausea but I still have to go to the bathroom at least 3-4 times a day and I am normally a once a week if lucky girl.  I am at work today, it is hard but I am here.  Thanks for your help.  This too will pass it is just going to be a hard road.  At least I know the baby is growing like he should.  I know it is a boy, I just have a feeling.

I am glad you are feeling a little better. They say mother's instincts are right 85% of the time, I read that somewhere. Anyway a boy, that would be sooo nice. :) I am so happy for you! :)

Welcome back where have you been hiding.  Thanks!

Kim -

I've just been really really busy with work.
and home life.  Just can't keep up.

And to be honest....Like I told Jezi...this forum kinda went to 'sh** for awhile there...

Everybody were first time questioners....talking stupid stuff.

I couldn't handle it.  I wanted to put my hand through the pc and strangle some people (uh-oh, sounding a lot like vanessa now...without the knife...LOL)

I really was just needing me time back.

I'm so happy you are so sick!!! LOL - that sounds bad....but means for a strong baby.
I was always really sick with both of my kids....and with Jake it was 10 times worse then anything I ever felt with Abby...to add all his other complications on to it...it was the longest 9 mos of my life....so good luck to ya!!!

And keep in mind....I'm very close to you so I can always come down and help whenever you need it.
