All the signs but no positive test results.

by mom2B_I_hope, Jan 13, 2005 12:00AM
I missed my cycle for Dec 24, 2004 so waited until Jan 1st and than took HPT.  Test was neg. So I waited, started getting tender breasts and almost felt like elect. shocks going through them. Started getting morning sickness so took another test on the 6th of Jan, still neg.  Than started getting side stitches in lower stomach and became very moody and emotional by the 10, tried another HPT still neg.  Called Dr's office and went in on the 11th which they did a blood test and they just called and said test results all look fine but didn't show I was Preg. The urine test showed up 1% on the white blood cell count but they were not worried about it. I am still getting all the signs and now have an accute sense of smell that I never had.  But No Positive Results.  Doctors tell me to wait two more weeks and if I still am having signs they will retest again.  What could be going on.  I am 35 and have been tring to have another child, before I am to old to do so.  I finally thought I was preg and being told no.  Could I be having complecations or something that they are not finding.  Or could I just have just missed my dec cycle and got preg before next one and having signs but to early to tell.  I don't know I am so confussed.  If anyone can help please do.

Blood tests are fairly accurate, so it could just be hormones.  Whatever the cause, if you don't have a period in January, you should go to the doctor and have them jumpstart it.  That way, you can get back on schedule.

how far along do you need to be for a blood test to show, because I am confussed of why they would want to retest in two weeks if I still am having signs. If they work so quick on determining if you are preg or not.

A blood test usually can indicate a few days past conception.  If your period was due on Dec. 24th, you probably ovulated around the 10th.  If you were pregnant, you should have tested positive, especially with a blood and urine test.  Maybe they meant that they would test your blood for any other cause of a skipped period, or they could have just wanted to pacify you knowing your period would show up.  Who knows?

My doctor said it is not uncommon to skip a period now and again, and that they usually work themselves out the next month.  As for the symptoms, since you did skip your period, your hormones are out of whack. Again, if you don't have a period by January 24th, I would definitely have them give you a shot that will start your period.  You might also ask them to test your progesterone level on CD 18 to see if you are ovulating.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I was told that blood tests are accurate at 10 days past ovulation. HOWEVER-- was the test they performed quantitive or qualitative. Qualitative tests are about as accurate as urine tests and quantitive are MUCH more accurate because they detect ANY HCG in your blood, even if the level is one.

Good to know how soon the blood tests show you are pregnant.  My dr wanted me to come in as soon as I thought I was pregnant to do a blood test to confirm it and put me on progesterone, but from what I have been reading, they are accurate 8-10 days after ovulation.  First Response has given me a positive only 12 days after ovulation.  I don't see the point in spending so much extra on a blood test when I could wait a couple of days and find out through a hpt.

Some women ovulate twice during one cycle.  Once early in the month and then again towards the end of your cycle.  Maybe the doctors are thinking you ovulated later and want to give enough time to have HCG in your system.

My mother in law was 37 when she had my sister in law, and she was 6 months along before ANY test showed up positive. I am not trying to get your hopes up, but you know your body better than anyone.  They did urine and blood tests on her and none showed up positive.  that was b4 sonograms, so they did an x-ray and sure enough, there was Misty, my sil.  Just pray and listen to your heart.

I just want to say thank you everyone.  I appreciate all you have told me.  I am not going to give up hope,  I know that if I am not this time I will always have time to try again.  I am going to give it time and see if I get my cycle in Jan.  If not than I will try a hpt again.  I truely feel like I am even though my test came back neg.  My next cycle is due on the 23rd of Jan so I don't have to long to wait, even though each day seems like a week.  I will keep in touch and let you know either way.  Thanks Again.

Hi i'm having a similar problem and extremly frustrated! My son is now 2, and never had been pregnant before, I knew 4 days after conception that he was here... So this time around we had a condom malfunction approx. on day 12 of my cycle (which is always normal) and a few days later I started to get breast tenderness, which is something I've only ever got pregnant. One week later I had a pelvic crampiness, and gas like feeling. Not painfull, but defiently noticable, and a mild backache which I still have. ( also still that pelvic gassy feeling) A few days after that, approx 10 days after the "malfunction" I noticed the little bumps on and around my nipples, those Montgomery gland things. I've only ever seen those when I was pregnant, it was infact the first thing I noticed before I even missed my period. Two days after I first noticed the bumps, I now have veins running to my breasts, (which are still tender!)I am tired all the time, even more so. Period is due in 2-3days. I have felt twingy and funny down there all week... defiently not normal PMS symptoms. Taken many of those early HPT's all neg. Last night I went to the ER I have had frequent urination for a few week and was dehydrated. (Which I don't relate the urination to the possible pregnancy) They did a qualitive blood test, which was also negative.. (the one which simply says yes or no)
SO anyways, sorry it was so long, but what should I do? I still am convinced I'm preg, but I can't handle the idea of getting another Negative.

ok,is there anyone out there who can help me figure out what is going on with me?  my boyfriend and i have unprotected sex and for the past two months i have been noticing a lot of symptoms. Some of which include bloated feeling all the time, nausiated when i eat (especially in the evening),heartburn, sensitivity to food and smells, a few wierd cravings, faintness when i dont eat (which was never a problem in the past), sore bones, especially in my back and hips and hands, headachs, moodiness, constant fatigue...if sleeping was a full time job id be the perfect candidate, and even a difference in sexual appitite. My stomach feels like its swollen literally and slightly harder above my pelvic bone (the way it feels like just before your period, except its all the time) which i have never had in the past. The thing is, is that i had a period last month. It was regular, slightly lighter and only minor cramping (i usually get really bad cramps). My boyfriend tells me its just in my head and that i could be creating the symptoms myself...so i left the idea alone...but the symptoms keep persisting.....any comments?

You probably ARE pregnant. Having your period during pregnancy IS possible. I've actually known two people who had NO IDEA they were pregnant until at least the 2nd trimester, because they had thier periods regularly. Please, go get a pregnancy test, and that will stop your wondering.  If it says you're not, go to the doctor or planned parenthood clinic and have them test you. If that says you're not, have them give you a blood test.  It IS possible that you could have what I've heard called a "psychiatric pregnancy," where you feel all the symptoms of a pregnancy, but are not. I don't know enough about it to talk about it anymore, just that it exists.  Anyway... Go get a test!  You can get them in packs of two, and take both of em on different days, to be "more sure".
