Alternating ovaries?

Alternating ovaries?

Does anyone know if each cycle you alternate which ovary releases an egg?  Or is it just random?

it's very random.  I usually ovulate out of the right side i very rarely (maybe once every 4-6 months) ovulate out of the left.

I think for healthy women (no cysts or other problems) that you are supposed to ovulate out of each ovary every other month.  So for example one month would be right, next month would be left, following month would be right and so on and so forth.  But how to tell which ovary you are ovulating from I'm not sure.  I know that some women get ovulation pain (medical term is mettleschmertz ?sp) which means ovulation pain and they can tell which ovary they are ovulating from based on what side the pain is on.  Other than that I'm not sure.

That is wierd- I had a pelvic ultrasound done about 1 week and half ago and the doctor informed that my right ovary released the egg that cycle.  How do you know that which side is releasing?

I can tell which side i'm ovulating on every month by the pain in my ovary.  I can totally feel it...i usually ovulate on the left, b ut every few months i feel it on the right.

i can tell by the pain on either side...my pain is right where my ovaries are..nowhere else..and it's distinctive to whatever side i'm ovulating on.

I have a pretty high chance of haveing twins so a lot of months i release more than one egg.  however if i only release one egg it is pretty hard to tell but (i think someone elsse said this too)  it's a dull pain on one side or the other (not a cramp) it very definate one side or the other.  when i release more than one egg at a time it hurts like hell for about 8 hours before it shoots those bad boys into the tube.

I read somewhere  (don't remember where sorry) that it is a random occurance.  I ovulate EVERY month.  Of course i could just think it is more often the right because the right is more painfull than the left.

wishing you well

I have pain in my ovary when I ovulate too and it tends to be on my right side. It is like a crampy feeling on just one side but if you press down WATCH OUT! IT hurts like hell and you KNOW which side you are ovulating on!!

Funny-but I was at the dr. last week and I asked this very question.  He told me that it is random...that whichever ovary releases the egg first is the "winner"...both ovaries are developing eggs, but which ever one gets rid of it first is the ovary that it is released from.  Therefore, some women spontaneously release one egg from each at the same time (coincidence)...and therefore, twins develop.  Hope this helps.
