Am I gaining too much weight??

Am I gaining too much weight??

My pre-pregnancy weight was 135 lbs.  I lost 6 lbs in the first three months and started gaining it back.  My current weight is 139 lbs and I'm 21 weeks pregnant.  The dr told me to go easy on carbs since I'm gaining too much weight too fast.  I'm scared now but I always feel hungry!!  I eat healthy and try not to eat junk food.  Where the heck all this weight is coming from?

That doesn't sound like too much weight to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

You are only 4 lbs heavier than when you started? Am I reading it right?

So wait a sec...you weighed 135 before pregnancy. Then you lost 6 pounds which would make you 129 pounds. So total you have gained 10 pounds in 21 weeks. That doesn't sound like a lot of weight to me...and if it is, people gain weight at different times while pregnant. If you're eating healthy, I wouldn't worry about it!

thats crazy for him or her to say u r gaining too much. i have a friend that is only 5 months along and
by looking at her u would think she is 7 months along. i think u r doing great. i was somewhat like u.
i would gain a couple then lose a couple. now im 9 months along and having my lil girl in bout 5 days
or so and i have only gained 9 pounds. and i havent been dieting or anything i just didnt crave junk like a lot of women do and ate somewhat healthy. and even if i hadnt lost some that i had gained i still would've only gained 18 pounds all together which is great. i have some friends that gained anywhere fro m 30- 80 pounds so i wouldnt worry about it at all. as long as your baby is healthy than all will be ok

I copied the below from Mayo Clinic.com, the increased blood volume alone is 3-4 pds.  My sister was obese before pregnancy which lead to gestational diabetes, so she was taking shots everyday to regulate... she delivered by c-section and actually weighed less than she did when she got pregnant.. but her pregnancy was MISERABLE.. she did not enjoy it at all, her body went through sooo much from having the diabetes.  I would say be thankful for the extra weight and being healthy during your pregnancy.. it is better for you and the baby.  I am right up there with you.  I did not gain any weight in the last 4 weeks but I did not change what I was eating, I gained the majority in the first 3 months, I was fortunate enough just to have nausea without vomiting.

Where does it go?
Let's say your baby weighs in at 7 or 8 pounds. That accounts for some of your pregnancy weight gain. But what about the rest? Here's a sample breakdown:

Baby: 7 to 8 pounds
Larger breasts: 1 to 3 pounds
Larger uterus: 2 pounds
Placenta: 1 1/2 pounds
Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds
Increased blood volume: 3 to 4 pounds
Increased fluid volume: 2 to 3 pounds
Fat stores: 6 to 8 pounds

Pre-pregnancy weight Recommended weight gain
Underweight 28 to 40 pounds
Normal weight 25 to 35 pounds
Overweight 15 to 25 pounds
Obese At least 15 pounds

Technically, you've only gained 4lbs!  What the heck is your dr thinking?  The same thing happened to me. I lost 6lbs and gained it back 3 months later. My dr said I am doing great!

i weighed 138lb  at my 21 wk check up! how can he say ur gaining too much. Am 5'1 and my doctor didnt seem scared at all. I weighed about just under 130 when i first got preggo, i may have lost a pund or two during my first seven weeks becuz of vomitting, but i started taking vomitting pills to not throw up so i was able to gain weight. at my 17 wks check up i was 134 so i only gained 4 lbs in the four weeks. alot of ur weight gain is ur baby too!

GEEEZE, that's annoying. W/dd we never even discussed weight, ever... I started at 157 and I'm still 157. Just because I was really sick last week but I'm only 13 weeks and 5'7. (could have lost a few lbs before getting pregnant) Anyways, I think you are doing great, that would have really P*ssed me off...

Tell your dr to lay off :-)  When I was 21 weeks I had gained 25pounds.  I gained a total of 53 and my dr never said anything about it.  Ryan is now 21weeks old and I have lost 45pounds.  If I saw your dr he would have been really upset with me - what a butt.

I'm beginning to think he didn't read it right.  I'll ask about it when I see him again.

I was average weight and toned when I got pregnant and I was sick all through pregnancy which helped me gain 80lbs.  YES 80  OUCH!  My doctor said he would not yell at me I was going through enough.  It did not complicate anything except me loosing it after.

I saw your pic, doesn't look like your gained 80pounds.  It sucks losing it.  I am stuck at a 45pound weight loss.  I stated at 137 and I am 147.  It has been 21weeks already yikes

that was a pre preganncy picture. haha - literally - I got pregnant right after that.  I lost 50 I still have 30 more to go.  How many pounds are you stuck at?  It is hard.  The first 40 were easy.  I guess that is why they tell you only to gain 30.

I'm 5'2". He saw me 2 1/2 weeks prior to that appt and I weighed 137 lbs.  I gained 2 lbs in that time.  Maybe that's what he meant by gaining weight too fast?  Plus, I was wearing much more at that appt (since it's already freezing it NY).  Cut me some slack and take off at least 1/2 lb for that!

Well I gained 53 and Ryan is 21weeks old and I have lost 45, so I got 12 more to go.  It is just so so hard to get the last 10 off.  I have cut back on what I eat and run about 10-15 miles a week.  I do it when I can.  It is so cold outside little Ryan can't go with me any more.  With my daughter, I only gain 25.  Crazy

Oh don't even worry about it.  I had gained almost 25 lbs in the 2nd trimester.  I was flipping out and then went to the swimming pool every day and was really cautious with what I ate and gained total of 35, but it all has come off (minus 5 or so lbs).  Just really take a good look at what you are eating..make sure you are eating plenty of greens, etc the other thing is I drank crazy amounts of water and it is a fact that drinking lots of water helps weight loss.  But 10lbs geez! that is nothing to sweat about.   I was 200LBs my final week (41st)
