Am I pregnant?

Am I pregnant?

I have a question about pregnancy tests. My pharmacist said that they are only accurate AFTER your missed period is passed. If I am on the pill, I take all the pills on time without missing one, I have sex two weeks before my period is due (and then not again), I am supposed to get my period on a Tuesday (but don't) and then take a pregnancy test on Thursday ( and it comes back negative), is this not accurate because this is when my period is due? And how likely is it that I will become pregnant on the pill if I am very strict in my taking it?

hey- if you are strict about taking your birth control and take it at the same time everyday w/o missing a pill then there is a slim to none chance that you are pregnant. But some people still do manage to get pregnant on the pill but it is normally due to not taking it exactly right. wait a few more days and take another test. If it turns out negative then you can go by that. If you are late it is normally due to stress or your body getting used to the birth control. How long have you been on birth control and are you using any other types of contraceptives? Good luck with you. I need to know these answers so I can really help you. I will keep you in my prayers.

I was on one pill for a year and recently (two months ago) was switched to a different one that was supposed to help with the side effects the first was causing. I take it every night, but not always at the same time. I am praying that I'm not pregnant but I'm so paranoid.

Oh the other thing is that I got all my normal "i'm about to get my period" symptoms before I was supposed to get it. My breasts were swollen and tender, I was overly emotional and hungry. Then it never came and the symptoms all went away. I've been really tired the past week and napping, like, two hours every afternoon, which I NEVER did before, but I also just started a new job and the weather's changing and I've been going to bed late... I hate this.

hey girl-- Don't stress or that can keep from your period from coming too. Before  you switched birth controls did you take the other one til this one came or did you stop taking the birth control for a while and then start this one? Also, some birth controls don't work for certain women, that is why there are so many out there. Did  you also use a condom when you had sex or just the pill? I am just trying to think about this. Let me know these answers and we will talk more. Keep me posted, your in my prayers

I never stopped taking the pill, I just switched. I was on this one pill, Trivora, and the pharmacy I was going to switched it, saying that the new pill they put me on was the same thing as Trivora, just a different generic brand, some political insurance thing I'm sure. Then I moved back home and my pharmacy here put me back on the original pill I was on (Trivora). THEN I went to my doctor to have it changed because Trivora was giving me these awful cyst-like things on my face right before my period every month (even though it was supposedly supposed to make skin clearer). So I'm on the third month of taking this new pill now. And this is the first time I've ever missed a period while on the pill. I did notice that my period was getting progressively lighter each month, last month I only got it for, like, a day and a half. Also, before I started the pill my cycle was not 2 days, it was more like 35-42 days.

It isn't terribly uncommon, after you have been on the pill for a while, to have very decreased to almost no period.

If you don't get your period in a week--see your doc for a blood test and advice about whether you need to switch pills.  There are kinds that you take for 3 months at a time, they do not contain the inert pills and the whole purpose is so you DON'T have a period!

The worst thing you can do is stop taking them altogether unless you are very conscientious about using another form of birth control--that is when most unintended pregnancies happen on the pill--people stopping suddenly and not using back up. Just go in a week if you don't get a period, or call and ask your doc for advice now if you wish.

As long as you take the pill within 4 hours of the same time each day, you should be ok.  I am going to try to post some general pill info today or tomorrow, cause we seem to have lots of questions regarding pills.

Hmmm.. I guess everyone is different.

I kept swiching brands, and sometimes I'd miss a day.. In fact, after I stopped taking the pill alltogether, it still took hubby and I about 2-3 months to conceive.
