AmI overreacting?

AmI overreacting?

Okay so Julian has had many of ear infections in his short life...He had a ear infection in September of 08 that lastedthrough 3 antibiotics! Well finally after the 3rd antibiotic the fluid left his ears and cleared up! Well about a month and a half ago I was at Julians doctor for something pretty insignifiant and mentioned that he was not saying his mamas nad babas etc.... I was a little concerned because he just kind of stopped saying them. She checked his ears and said there is some fluid but no infection currently! She decided it was time to refer him to a ENT.I made an appintment but they couldnt get him in until the 21st of this month! So about 2.5 weeks ago I took Julian into the ped because he was not eating, pulling on his ear and a slight feaver. He had a mild ear infection , viral infection and strep!!!! She gave him an antibiotic and madea floolw up 10 day appt... She said his ear looked better.. Still fluid but the infection was gone! All was fine until a few days ago when he became extra fussy and wasnt eating orsleeping well... I called her today and took himin! She said his ear infectionwas back and worse than before! She perscribed a second antibiotic and mentioned that the chances of tubes is very high!! I went to visit my husband at work to tell him!One of his co workers asked what was wrong and I saidJulian will probably have to get tubes and they are like "thats no big deal and no reason to be upset!!! A lot fo babies have to get it done! No big deaL" I am really upset! I know its common but NOT FOR ME! I dont like the idea of my baby getting put under! Do you guys think I am overreacting?

Yes, but I understand the stress involved with general anesthesia. As an outsider here, I can tell you that you will be doing him a huge favor getting this done now so he can put all of his energy into growing and not living his young life in constant pain and on antibiotics.

Think about this as someone else's child. Would you rather see them constantly running to the pedi, filling rx meds all the time, baby always miserable when there was a relatively simple procedure that could help end it all.

You will be amazed. My niece (2 yrs old) had to have tubes put in her ears, COMPLETELY different child! Now we call her the wild child. Never sits down, always running, jumping, yelling, playing. She doesn't have that "my ears are stuffed" look anymore.

sorry you're going through this lindsey!  poor julian!  :(

we thoguht peyton was going to have to have tubes put in her ears also...  she had 4 ear infections in 5 months and fluid also.  we were a little worried about it b/c of the anethesia (which she's had twice before when she had her surgery) but when we took her to the ent he told us she didn't need the tubes!

i wouldn't necessarily say you're overreacting b/c anything involving your child like that will always upset you...  but it's somewhat comforting to know how common it is for kids to need this done.

good luck w/ getting julian all better!!!  :)

Ashtyn has tubes  in his ears, and he has not had a single ear infection since :-) I was just like you, I was upset and scared. It was hard because of having to be put under, but it is the fastest surgery ever lol He was awake, then gone to the OR, then back awake again in a matter of 15 minutes. It doesn't take long so try to stay positive.

I have not answered anything on this forum but have been reading it for omre than a year.  My daughter is jennyb473 and she introduced me to Med help.  I am a retired RN who worked in an ENT office for 12 years until I retired 2 years ago.  We did tubes very frequently and I know first hand how beneficial they can be.  The worry every parent has abourt anesthesia for children is much less if the only procedure is tubes because it is such a short procedure and they are given light anesthesia, no need for intubation or to breathe for them.  Hope this helps.

Thank you so much that does help! I am just afraid of the worst. My father had a horrible adverse reaction to Anesthesia so it makes me worry a bit and I have only had it once when I had some teeth removed! Thank you though it is reassuring to hear a RNs take! Thanks
