Amoxicillin and pregnant

I had a cold for couple days and a fever along with it of course.  My man paniced about the well being of the baby and insisted to take me to the hospital, the ER doctor (obviously I don't know him) priscribed (prescribed) me amoxicillin for my throat infection (now that i think about it I would of managed with tylenol).  He said it was PRETTY safe during pregnancy.  Not convincing.  So before i took the pill I asked the nurse if it was 100% safe and she said "Yes, it's 100% safe."  Since when you start an antibiotic you have to finish it I was told that about my priscription (prescription).  I called my gyno and spoke to the nurse there I asked her was amoxicillin safe to take during pregnancy (I am 26 weeks)  and after asking me why did i get priscribed (prescribed) that and few other questions, she said "Amoxicillin is OK"  Still not so convincing.  So I'm better now, of course, and still have more then half the bottle left.  I am nervous to keep taking the pills over and over, especially now that I don't need it anymore to make me feel better.  I went and researched it a little online, but didn't really find any answers on whether it is safe or not.  Does anyone knows anything about this antibiotic during pregnancy?  Please help!

I was told any antibiotics in the Cillin family were safe.  Someone had posted a list of meds that were safe, but I'm not on my own computer, so I can't find it.  I do know you  can have Macrobid, because I was placed on it for a UTI by my GYN.

Amoxicillin is safe during pregnancy. I had a bad ear infection when I was about 2 or 3 months pregnant and that's what they gave me. I made them call the ob doctor and everything before I agreed to take anything!

I was just prescribed it a few days ago and it is perfectly safe.  I'm only 13 weeks, too and they said it was no big deal.  :)

I'm trying to remember because this was so long ago but I think the doctor told me that Amoxicillin doesn't cross the placenta like some meds do? Anyway, I was assured it was safe and I was in my first trimester when I had to take it and my now 20 year old son is perfect and too darn smart for his own good! Lol. Hope that makes you feel better! :)

I had a UTI from week 10 to week 20.  Doc prescribed Macrobid and Amox during this time.  He went through his medical book to double check the safety of the meds during pregnancy.  They are very safe.  If you are on Amox, I highly suggest picking up Probiotic Yogurt or some Acidophillus as pregnant women are double as likely to get a yeast infection (had one from week 18 to week 23).  Anitobiotics kill all the good bacteria which is why I am suggesting to take a probiotic supplement.
