Annoyed

Went to the dr. today. All is well, heard the heartbeat(160bpm). My spotting stopped Thursday, I think. Pretty happy. Then she gave me a hard time for having gained 4 pounds!!! I have been on restricted activity for 4 weeks-no sex, no working out, rest, rest ,rest. What did she think was going to happen??? So, I'm at 13w2d and have gained 5 pounds. Is that hideous? I had to beg her to let me swim twice a week, and we still can't make love. Grrrrrr! I am so happy and proud to be taking care of myself and this baby, but I really don't need to be given a hard time for something I have no control over. I haven't been overeating...I have NOT been moving!!

Thanks for letting me vent.

I hope you tell that dr to go bugger off!  5 lbs in the first trimester doesn't sound bad to me!  I think only gaining 5lbs in the first trimester with no excercise is very comendable. Besides, as long as you are eating right thats what counts!  Good luck and hang in there!

Thanks, Shannon. I just had a crying jag, because I was hungry and felt guilty for eating the other half of my sandwich from dinner...now that is WRONG!!! I will be able to go swimming at least once this week, which should put some sunny back in my disposition, I hope. Hopefully tomorrow, I'll feel better.

BTW-everyone I have spoken to agrees that the doctor was not being rational or fair.

Blessings-

Remember that pregnancy is not the time to diet : ) Some doctors recommend 2-4 lbs in the first trimester, but some don't. As long as you aren't using pg as an excuse to eat 5 big macs a day, you should be fine. They usually suggest adding an extra 300 calories per day to your diet when you are pg, bringing you intake to somewhere around 2300 calories a day.

Be mindful of what you are eating, as far as salt and ultra high fat content and you should be just fine!

I really do not think that your weight gain is in access. As far as that goes I am 17 weeks and have gained 8 pounds. My perinatologist is fine with that!!

Thanks for your support. I am still reeling a bit from it. I figure since I have been on restricted activity for 4 wks., 300 extra calories a day is 8400 calories-a bit more that 3lbs extra. I haven't been over indulging in fats and things...in fact, my taste buds have started a revolt and there's not a lot that I want to eat anyway.

I have a history with eating disorders/body image etc., so I am taking this really hard. I promised myself I wouldn't be one of those women who was worried about getting "fat" during pg., but would work out and eat well. Well, I haven't been able to work out, and I'm trying not to get depressed and really cranky. Just trying to get through this minor setback. Have to remember to breathe, and talk to my doctor about not being such a bully.

Don't let your dr. make you feel like that.  I switched dr.'s for this pregnancy and I will make it a point if he says one little thing about my weight, he'll hear more than an ear full. I had a bad time with body weight/image as well. I was 105 at 5'7".  My Ex-husband used to tell me he'd divorce me if I gained weight. So I always saw myself as fat.  Now, I'm remarried and really, really, really, super happy and at a normal/reasonable weight about 125-130. When I was pregnant with my son and with my daughter I gained like 50 and 55 pounds. I worked hard afterwards to loose it, but I did.  So don't get down on yourself.  This is supposed to be one of the happiest times of your life, don't let some dr. who has no idea how difficult it is to fight with body image/public expectations get you down.  Just enjoy yourself and if the dr. says something to you, say something right back!  They are dr's..not Gods, you reserve the right to speak your mind.

I'm sorry but I think that is horrible how your doctor made you feel.  I gained on the heavy side in pregnancy for sure but for you to feel guilty for eating the other half of your sandwich.  I am terribly sorry you were made to feel that way.

Thanks again for your words of support. I am afraid she really has triggered some old bad habits. My husband is upset with me because it takes a lot to get me to eat a meal these days, but I'm getting better. I still want to lose a few pounds or stay the same weight but maintain a healthy pregnancy. Not sure how to do it though.

Enjoy your holidays.

PS-Thunder-I plan to give as good as I get with the doctor, and now she has riled my very mild mannered husband. Should be interesting.
