Anxiety and Depression

I have suffered from depression and anxiety disorder my whole life. When I first found out I was Preg. I was on Paxil and my OB told be that it was bad for the baby and he would put me on Zoloft and I could then taper off the drug. I have been off Zoloft for 1 month now and have suffered from the worsed panic attacks in the past week that I have ever experienced. It is to the point where I have anxiety about leaving the house but am having attacks even when I am at home. I went to see my OB and they made me feel guilty about wanting to go back on some type of meds so I can funtion normaly. I cant continue to live like this I havent been to work or even outside in 1 week but dont want to harm my baby either. Anyone have any advise. Please help.

There has to be meds that are safe in pregnancy.  Maybe you need a differant doc.

Good luck honey, I hope you are able to get better soon.

Hello... I believe it is safe for you to be on Prozac.... I think Zoloft and Clexa are sasfe too...It is better for you to be on these drugs than to have these horrible panic attacks....  Maybe you only need the meds every other day??? You could try this....good luck to you...I know what you are going through..I also have had horrible panic attacks and depression my whole life...IT is not fun at all.....

My sil is on Prozac while pregnant.  Her dr. said it was safe.  I also have a friend that takes effexor (for depression and anxiety) and she has taken it through 3 pregnancies.  Her children were fine.  You might see another ob and ask their advice on what medications are safe for you and baby and will help you deal with these issues.  You need something, because you can't live 9 months like that.  I wouldn't think that would be good for you OR your baby.  I know there are drs out there that are more up to date on this sort of thing...more willing to treat you and know the risks to the baby.  I hope you find help soon.  I suffer with anxiety to some degree...took klonopin before pregnancy...and I sure miss it right now!  I find myself worrying more than usual, but I do not suffer to the extent that you do...if I did, I would get a dr to help me!

I understand where you are coming from. I was on paxil too, and coming off of it gave me horrible panic attacks and I tried several times to climb over my loft ledge. I was so not in my right mind. I literally had to wean myself off paxil by breaking it into chips ( 1 pill for 2 wks break that into 4 chips then 3 chips for two wks etc.) I had tried several ways to get off of paxil and that was the ONLY way that worked.  I really feel they should warn us about this paticular med.  I seen ppl take zoloft and other meds without withdrawl (withdrawal) but paxil is by far the worst to get off of.  I would really talk to your dr and tell thhem all you are experiencing and don't let them brush you off. I wish you the best ~dani

I have been getting panic attacks as well..at my last appointment.... i told me OB this.. without batting an eye he said .. "You want sometimes for that? "  I was like.. wow..lol.

he told me that it was better to take something than to sit there and worry and panic all the time..

i am in my last trimester.. so he gave me something at a very low dosage.. and assured me that all would be ok .. I researched it.. and while there is  no way anyone can promise something wont happen.. i know that the probablility is very low..

I dont take it all the time.. and it has helped out.. I wish you the best of luck!! God Bless!
