Any PCOS women have success on Metformin and Clomid?

by Justine17, Nov 25, 2006 12:00AM
I've been diagnosed with PCOS recently and will start Metformin and Clomid.  I've heard the chances of having a healthy pregnancy with these meds are 40% for PCOS women which isn't too bad but wish it was more like 80%  : )  Just wanted to hear any success stories to help cheer me up. Thanks

I have pcos and I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I used glucophage and clomid. My first pregnancy I got pregnant on the first round of clomid. This time, the 4th round was the charm. Good luck to you! PCOS does not stop you from getting pregnant...it just means you need more help.

I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, but I am on Metformin to aid in ovulation. I will begin Clomid on day 5 of my cycle, if it will ever arrive!!! I have also heard of many women who became pg on first round. I am wondering how long it takes to ovulate after beginning meds. Today is my 12th day on meds and still no ovulation according to OPK.

by Justine17, Nov 27, 2006 12:00AM
Thanks for your comments, I feel much better.
Casey's mom: Just curious, did you stay on Glucophage throughout your whole pregnancy or just the first trimester?
Candie26:  Glad there is someone out there starting Clomid around the same time as me.  I'll be thinking of you.  I also haven't had a period since August (and it wasn't much either) My doc. is having me take Provera starting this week and she even said I may not bleed at all and to start Clomid 6 days after my last dose of Provera.  I'm trying to understand your situation, are you supposed to ovulate with Metformin only?  I guess some people do but my doc. thought it would be best to start Clomid right away.

My dr. didn't say anything about starting clomid before af. She really wants me to have af...due to a possibility that an egg has become "old." Fertilization of that egg would result in my 3rd m/c. I have read that some women o on just metformin, while others need clomid also. I will take it either way!!! I took my last dose of Provera on Thanksgiving Day and am still waiting for af!! I have felt slight af cramps today. Keep me posted!!

Oh, that makes sense.  If I don't get my AF after Provera, I'll ask my doc. about that possibility of an old egg being there before I start Clomid.  I'm starting Provera tomorrow.  Yay! I had very very little spotting today, probably just break-through-bleeding. How are you doing?   AF yet?

Hi there I am about to start clomid tomorrow for the first time. I have PCOS and have had it for years I have heard that taking met and clomid is meant to be a higher risk of getting pregnant. All you girls are in my prayers because I know how hard it is.

Hi, I am 26 and have been on metformin for almost nine months now. It has caused my periods to regulate, but still no baby news. Should I wait any longer before starting clomid? Do most women conceive on both clomid and metformin?

by Latasha, Jan 03, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, my name is Latasha. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 months ago.  I believe I've had it for many years.  I am a 24 years old.  I've been taking metformin for about 3 months.  Before taking metformin I didn't have a cycle for about 3 1/2 years.  The first month I started taking metformin, I had a cycle.  It's n ot regular, but I had one.  Today, is my seocnd day taking clomid.  I have three more days to go.  My doctor told me to continue taking metformin with clomid.  Around the 12th of January my doctor told me to start using an 5 day ovulation kit.
My husband and I has been trying fo 2 years. It is very stressfull and painful (mentally).  I pray and hope that I will conceive this time.  Meformin 500 mg (bi-daily)  Clomid 50 mg daily.  Everyone please pray for me and I'll pray for you.   (SMILE)

Hi, Latasha! I am also 24, and my husband and I have been TTC for a year. I also have been diagnosed with PCOS, and am going into my 2nd month on Metformin. I just finished my first round of Provera, and am expecting a cycle by the end of the week. Are you getting any of the skin discolorations? Let's try to keep up with each other's progress.

by Waiting4amiracle, Jan 20, 2007 12:00AM
Hi my name is Melissa and I was diagnosed with PCOS almost 3 years ago, although I think I've had it for 10 years or so! We ttc for over 3 years before i was diagnosed.  Took a break for 2 years while Doc put me on Metformin 500mg/Ext.Rel. and spironolactone, changed my eating habits and exercised almost everyday and I lost 40lbs in less than 8 months.  I just took my first dose of Clomid today (50mg) so wish me luck.  We both want this so bad it hurts sometimes...I work in the Birth Center of all places...go figure :)

I am 24 years old.  My husband and I have been trying to conceive now for 2 years.  I was recently diagnosed with PCOS (very little signs of it).  I've had two miscarriages.  I recently had a laparascope done where they removed cyst from my ovaries as well.  I am now seeing a fertility specialist who has me on 1000mg of metformin (no diabetes, just to stimulate ovulation) and 50mg of clomid.  On Friday I begin taking ovulation kits and next Monday I go for an ultrasound to see how big the follicles are.  At that time I will also begin hcg injections and progesterone for 3 days.  If the sonagram looks my husband and I have decided to do the IUI.  However my Dr. also said plenty of sex afterwards.  This is our first round of meds so keep us in your prayers.  Has anyone been through something similar?  I look forward to your responses.

Hi everyone! I'm a 26 year old w. pcos  :(  I've been trying to concieve for the a year and a half.  Got pregnant the first time with clomid 50mg, but miscarried in Aug.  It was extremely difficult for me; especially when you are given something you want just to have it gone so quickly.  no AF for a  while then took provera for the first time, got AF then took clomid 50mg again...no luck this time; to make my emotional state even worse, almost everyone me and DH associates with was getting pregnant one after the other...It made me feel like everyone but me is getting pregnant.  Well I have a positive outlook again and last week I got my period and will finish my new round of clomid 100mg w. metformin this week.  So i am trying to stay optomistic and hoping for the best!  This process has the ability to take a toll after a while; I went through a phase when felt like a failure for not being 'normal' and just getting pregnant; DH really wants this baby as much as me so I'm really hoping we get lucky this time.  Tons of baby dust to everyone!

Praveena, please don't be discouraged.  Some things take awhile to work.  At least you are in the middle of your program.  I just found out today about PCOS, and I've been having problem this for years.  It seems we are all working on the same goals.  I find this rewarding to know that I am not alone.  My husband and I are trying to concieve as well.  I have been on Provera and your AF will come, it just takes awhile.  My Doc started me on prenat vitamins today, to build my body up.  I will go for my ultrasound tomorrow, and meet with her next week.  By the looks of it, I have PCOS.  In a way I am glad, because I can start to feel better.  All I was ever told before was to lose weight, I was too heavy.  But no one not until today, ever called my condition by name, and for that I am glad.  I would like to keep everyone encouraged.

I have had 4 children through IVF.  I am 42, and also have 3 adopted chidren for a total of 7.  I had 3 rough pregnancies with diabetes, and SOHS.  I also have PCOS and am on  1500mg of Metformin a day.  I have nearly normal cycles now, but no ovulation to speak of.  I have had a total of 5 miscarriages.  It does get easier....all of it.  To all of you, I've walked your path, just hang in there.  Someday the right combination will work for you all, and then you can look down from the top of the mountain that you conquered and smile again.  It will happen. (adoption isn't a bad alternative either, if the stress is just too much.  Haiti is a good place right now, new and quick. Around $14,000)

We have been trying to have a baby for about 1 year. I've been on Metformin for 5 months for PCOS and I'm taking Eltroxin for my Thryroid and was told to loose 15% body weight and then try IUI. Does anyone have similiar situation?

I was diagnosed with PCOS quite a few years ago, so as soon as we wanted to start trying my OB/GYN put me on 100 mg of Clomid.  I began ovulating right away and I got pregnant on my 6th cycle of Clomid with my first and very successful pregnancy.  I'm now 30 wks pregnant with our little girl and we're both doing great!  It happens, good luck!!

I am so happy to hear that I am not the only one in this world.  It feels much better to know that there are alot of women out there can understand. :)  I am now taking metformin for a month and waiting for a local OB to see me Unfortunately,  it takes six months to see one :(  I am about to cry when I heard but life goes on.  I was seeing a doctor before in a different country and now that I am here in Canada I am hoping to continue seeing one,  but there was no luck.

I continued taking metformin and I have enough to last for 3 months.  since I was diagnosed with PCOS

I am wondering if one of you ladies can give me the exact name of your clomid so I can buy for myself online.  I am desperate now and six months is alot of waiting time to see a Canadian OB for the first time.  Help please?

I am 34 yrs old.  My husband and I wanted to start having a child in 2002.  Without periods and my Dr. suggesting PCOS we tried Clomid (50mg).  Got pregnant the first try only to miscarry at 6 1/2 wks.  Tried again 3mo later conceiving on the second try of Clomid (100mg) only to miscarry again at 5 1/2 wks.  The first time was devestating the second time we prepared ourselves for the worst but physically I wasn't bouncing back.  We waited 4mo to try again this time we got pregnant the first try again using Clomid(50mg) and my Dr. had me use progesterone until week 12 and we now have a healthy 2yr old.  I have been diagnosed with PCOS and am on Metformin (1000mg).  I haven't had a period in the 3mo I have been on it.  We are wanting to try for another baby but no period means no ovulation.  I am seeing my Dr. in a couple of weeks to see about Clomid again.  I am nervous about using Clomid and Metformin together but am reading it is safe.  Anyone have a similar experience with success?

I am 31 yrs old.  I am scheduled to see my endocrinologist in the next couple of weeks to begin Metformin.  How soon after starting Metformin did any of you become pregnant.  Do you have to begin taking it at a certain time?  I was diagnosed with PCOS approx 2 years ago.  I have been taking Synthroid which has helped me with getting a cycle. Sometimes mear spotting others overflow.  I don't believe that I am ovulating at all, because we have not gotten pregnant and have been ttc for over a year.  I am staying prayerful that thinks will happen shortly after starting Metformin.

I have a son who will be 4 years old in January. We conceived him almost right away.I have had PCOS since I was 16 years old and didn't even know it. My ob/gyn said that when you have PCOS, it usually happens shortly after you begin  your  menstruation. Looking back, I definatly had it, all the signs were there!
Anyway, I'm on Metformin 1500 mg a day.I started taking the Rx June 1st and have had three periods. My cycle is 35 days long.
I'm beginning 50mg Clomid  on days 7-11 and hoping for the best.
I welcome any questions and advise.

PS:    tea_berries

The generic for Clomid is Clomiphene Citrate. Please be careful what you buy on the internet and the best of luck to you.

Hi, I was with PCOS in March this year after ttc for over 22 months. I have a DS who is 3 years - was concieved right away - but i guess because i was the right size then - after i had him - i put on over 30 kgs that i failed to shed and didnt get af for over 12 months and there after - it was so irregular taking over 50 days. I was on clomid for 3 cycles without success and the month that we rested is when i concieved - am currently 10 weeks. My Dr advised me not to take metamofin while am pregnant - but i have taken 500mg on those days when i have eated terribly - alot of carbs - its advised that you stop taking it at 12 weeks. I am watching my diet - very strictly.

I have had PCOS since I was young...I had trouble conceiving and didn't realize it until about 7 months ago my then boyfriend and I wanted a baby (now he's my husband)! I went to the doctor and she told me the trials and tribulation I may have to go through to become a mommy- She put me on Metformin for about 4 months- then we added clomid on Christmas eve....I went to church and prayed and asked God to bless us with a beautiful baby and that he'd help me through the infertility. I went to the doctor for some blood work...they told me the results were abnormal. I then went for a Blood pregnancy test and glory be to GOD!!!!!! I am pregnant!!!! I am about to be a mother. I have no fear that the pregnancy wont complete or miscarry or anything because GOD is in control....God said if you delight yourself in HIM...he will give you the desires of your heart....pray, pray, pray...use common sense, take your meds and believe on Jesus...I pray you good luck and baby blessings.....Thank you JESUS!.

Hi newmommy2008.  I too was diagnosed with PCOS in November (after 4 yrs of TTC).  It was a dreadful thing to hear that I will have trouble trying to get pregnant.  They immediately scheduled me for surgery which included ovarian drilling amongst other things.  I was on Clomid prior to that under a different phasician and had no luck (they never looked to see if anything was wrong with my ovaries).  In December they decided to start me on Gonal-f treatments.  That was my first treatment and I prayed to the God and the Virgin Marry to make this one treatment work (we were worried about the cost of having to go through another treatment).  To no avail, I found out that we were pregnant on January 9th with an HCG of 50.  Went back two days later and my HCG level went to 96.  Unfortunately, my progesterone was VERY low. It was a 5!  They started me on progesterone in oil treatments and then tested me again 3 days later.  My HCG went to 211 and progesterone went to 29.  Went for my first u/s yesterday and they found a sak.  Unfortunately, my HCG level was only 511.  I'm wish I could say the same thing you're saying.  I am very worried that this will not carry to term due to the low HCG level.  I'm going back again this Tuesday for another beta and u/s.  I hope everything works out for you!!  Good luck and God bless!

I am 23 yrs old, been diagnosed with PCOS, trying to conceive for almost a year. Doctor prescribed Dydrogesterone,10mg,to help me get and regularize my periods. Took the mention pill since May,07 to Oct. 07, i had to stop because i was having even more irregular periods, spotting. Now, today ( jan 30) went to doctor, the cysts on my ovaries are still the same ( normal sign of a patient with pcos ) but as ive been ttc for over a year, he suggested that i should take a blood test to see how levels of prolactin are. If it is too high, he said that there might be a tumor in the brain.
I wanted to ask, and try to find out if you have been diagnosed with the same, or you know somebody. What are the chances of getting pregnant ? Is Pcos related to prolactin? Does the tumor has to be removed? or you only take pills to get the prolac. level low? does it have any effect on the baby, or in the mother? is there any risks? etc.
Thank you very much for your answers...

Ive had PCOS since I was a teen and now I am 33 and me and Hubby are trying for our 2nd bundle of joy. I have not had a period since 12/05. Im starting Provera today and Im taking Fertility Blend (multi-vitiman). As soon as my period comes I will stop the multi and take 50mg of Clomid on day 3 for five days. I will then use a ovulation predictor to pin point the day that I will ovulate. We only did one round with of Clomid when I became pregnant with my now 4 year old daughter.I pray that we are so lucky this time around. It took 5 years to concieve the first time before Clomid and I have never become pregnant since my 1st child. I will check back to update on my progress. Good Luck to all TTC! Jay& Ron , NYC

Hello Everyone....

Alll of your stories are very helpful.  I am 23 and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 years old.  I struggled with weight gain, facial hair growth, skin discoloration, and infertility.  The first time my husband and I saw a doctor was 3 years ago and he prescribed me clomid, at first 50 mg which I ovulated the first cycle but then never agian after that even with increased mg.  We were so discouraged.  The doctor prescribed me glucophage (1000 mg daily) and then we decided to take a break from treatment.  After being on the glucophage for three years, I dropped 65 lbs and started having a regular periods agian, no ovulation though.  Earlier this month we started seeing a new doctor and she prescribed clomid (50 mg) along with my glucophage.  I am on day 14, no ovulation yet but I'm hoping with the weight loss and the help of the clomid and glucophage we will finally concieve this time or at least I will start ovulating.  We're keeping our fingers crossed!  Good luck to all!

I was diagnosed with PCOS after trying to get pregnant for 16 months.  I was put on Metformin 1000mg.  I lost 21 pounds in 6 weeks (with diet & no exercise though I recommend the exercise).  I got pregnant after just one regular cycle (first time in 16 months I could actually pinpoint when I ovulated).  I hadn't been regular my whole life and never knew I even had a problem.  I was not on the Clomid, only Metformin.  I had a great pregnancy and have a wonderful son (almost a year and half old) and am eager to try again in the near future.  I had success on the metformin alone so I would think that if you need a combo there's great potential.  I do recommend a low-carb diet, I have found that to be a key in both the weight loss and getting the most effective results of the medicine.

Hi there.  My first time here, but have the same story as you all.  31, almost 32, PCOS a couple of years ago.  Never regular cycle, BC early in high school, then when I got married at 27 I came off, and no period.  For years.  Had one cycle of clomid last year, ovulated well, but no go.  Now on Metformin, which I need to take for 6 weeks before I start clomid.  Right now loving this provera induced super period.  I am obese, have had weight issues my whole life, and I am encouraged by some of your comments.  Maybe the metformin will help me with metabolic issues beyond conception, although that is what I am aiming for!
Good luck to you all.

I have know I had PCOS for over 15 years.  I had taken provera before and never menestrated.   I have also taken clomind which did produce hot flashes about 7 years ago.

I am 35 and now I  am ready to try the  recommended combination of metforming and clomid.   I am trying to be proactive.   We are talking about being ready for a baby in 2009 if we are blessed.

I also have twins which run on the paternal side of my family.  I am  looking forward to seeing how that will effect my chances.

I would love to speak to the ladies out there who have just started the combo.   I am fearing the worst in side effects.

I have had 5 miscarriages and 1 ectopic. I too was diagnosed with PCOS after other tests were done. I was on Metformin and Clomid. On the 2nd round of Clomid, I became pregnant. I have a 4yr old son and also a 20 month old. I only used the clomid and metformin for my son. The doctor said I would need the medicine to get pregnant again. Not so!!! God blessed me with a beautiful little girl also. Keep all in prayer. Remember even though we do not understand, He does!!! He knows what we can handle and what we cant. God bless each one of you. I've been on both ends. I know the disappointments and the joys.

Have any of you had to deal with Group B strep? That's my latest trial. Thanks ESESRS

Hello ladies I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 2007 after having three years of irregular cycles and I have not had a period since November. My doctor started me off on metformin (850mg twice daily) in December 2007, as he told me that PCOS is related to insulin resistance. He also reccomended that I loose weight. I have changed my diet and have been doing regular exercize since and have lost one stone, but have still not had a period. Today I had my appointment and he has put me on Provera to kick start my period. Reccomending that I continue my treatment with the Metformain and start Clomid when my period happens. I totally understand how much of a stressfull time you all must be going through. But we can always live in hope. So all the best

hi nepyof,

You and I are going through the same challenge.  I too have changed my diet and I am exercising.  I have lost 20lbs so far but need to lose 20 more.  I have started Prometrium last week and I am waiting for my period so I can start Clomid.  I have been on Metformin for 1 year now.  Praying that the combo works!

hi all,
I'm was just diagnosed w/ PCOS on Monday and am looking for best treatment options. I really want my GYN to prescribed Metformin b/c of what I believe is insulin resistance. I've been unable to lose weight (literally...can starve myself an not drop a lb) and also have thyroid issues. GYN told me that ppl gain weight on Metformin but everything i'm reading says most lose.....

Does anyone know why Metformin causes ppl to lose? How much do you lose on average? I need to lose 40 lbs to go back to my original weight..... Has anyone gained on Metformin?

Actually i have lost weight easier while on Metformin.  It hasn't been so easy though.  I have had to boost my exercise time and stick to a low carb diet.  So far I have lost 23 pounds in the last 5 months.

Hello everyone!  I just joined this post because it seems like a wonderful place to vent to others who know what I'm going through.  Here's my story...I had very irregular periods during my teen years, but then went on BCP for 7 years, which regulated my cycle.  I was having complications with the BCP, so I went off of them in December 2005.  I didn't have another period for 18 months.  My general doctor didn't want to do anything about it at the time because I was also suffering from an eating disorder.  Well, when I had gained enough weight (at this point, my hubby and I wanted to get preggo), my period started again.  My cycles were anywhere from 35-50 days apart.  I had an ultrasound of my ovaries and my Dr said I had PCOS, even though I didn't have any of the other symptoms.  She put me on metformin 1500 mg in April and my cycles are getting more and more regular.  I have also been using OPKs and they have been giving me a positive...could they still say positive and I didn't ovulate???  This month, my new Dr also put me on clomid, 50 mg.  I'm afraid the clomid won't work because of my past.  Anyone have similar issues???  Thanks for the support!

ok this is my first time doing this forum thing so bare with me.....  I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 yrs ago.  I was on BC to help keep my periods regular.  I got off of BC about 4 yrs ago and have had a period here and there...  I have went to the doctor about 2 years ago and got metforman and I took it for only a couple month and nothing was happening besides having to go to the bathroom every 30 min.   So the next time i went to my OB she gave me Provera ( which I have taken several times in the past and always worked) and Clomid... I went to and got them filled and never took them..  My fear was and is that i wont be able to get PG and if i didnt take it then i didnt know and then their was no dissapointment.  So then I went back to the OB about 8 months ago and got the same RXs and just didnt get them filled.  So Now my husband and I are ready to have children (my husband has been ready since the day we got married..LOL)  and I just got the RXs filled and am on my 8th day of provera....  I am so excited and scared to be dissapointment...  I need some encouragment and success stories to lift my spirits...

I conceived my daughter in 2006 on metformin 1500mgs and clomid 50mgs on round two.  The metformin has made my cycles a regular 35 days.  Before that I would go up to a year with no af.  I am currently trying to conceive #2  on the same combo but this time I am starting the 6th round.  I hope it works this time!  Good luck to all and babydust!

BabyHopeful2008 - Your story sounds so much like mine, almost identical!

I also had irregular periods as a teen and was on birth control for 7 years which regulated me and I didn't think much about it.  Then when my husband and I wanted to get pregnant, I got off the BCP and had no AF for 4 months.  So I went to the Dr and they did an ultrasound and saw all the cysts on my ovaries and gave me Metformin which I have been on for 6 months now.  It has helped me to ovulate, but only twice in 6 months, and no pregnancy.  So I asked about starting on Clomid and I am about to do that.  I have been reading all your stories and some are encouraging!  It is so frustrating, and I too have felt like I am the only one going through this, but it's nice to know that I am not. : )  Baby dust to all of us!!

I was told that I have PCOS after my husband and I were trying to have our 2nd child. I got pregnant with my son with no drugs, and I did get pregnant again but it ended in m/c. My doctor put me on Metformin, first 1000 mg. and then got upped to 2000 mg. I go to the dr tomorrow to get put on Clomid. I am really wanting to have another baby and I find comfort in knowing that there are others out there who are in the same boat as me. I pray that this will work for me as for all of you.

I have recently found out that I have PCOS and have started on Metformin and Clomid. I went in to give blood for a progesterone test and the number came back at 16 which my doctor said was a good sign. My husband and I have been trying for a year and we are praying every day that it's our time! I'm glad to hear that we are not alone.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in April of this year. Never had regular cycles...would range form 28 days all the way up to 60 days! OUCH! Anywho....my Family doc put me on metformin 1000mg/day and that helped to clear up the cysts. Went back to the RE and he gave me clomid followed by an HCG injection. I am now waiting for my BFP(big fat positive). We have been TTC for a lil over a year. God willing and Aunt Flo doesn't arrive we will have a bun in the oven by christmas!
Good Luck and lots of Sticky Baby Dust to all!!

I will be praying for you. I have also been diagnosed with PCOS. I'm devestated and I want a baby so bad so I know how you feel.I've always been about 2 weeks late for my period but didn't think anything was wrong with it. I never had any other signs. I went to the doctor just as a precaution because my husband and I have not gotten pregnant yet. I never thought he would tell me that something was wrong. I was shocked. I start taking clomid this week. I'm so sad...

I had a baby when i was 18, before i was diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyrodism(another disease that effects fertility).... She is almost 3 years old now and me and my husband have been trying to concieve again for 14 months with no luck. I've been on metformin for a few months and last month did my first cycle of clomid... anyone had success with this combo?

I'm not really sure about the combo. I am fixing to take my first cycle of clomid in 2 days. My doctor has never said anything to me about metformin. What is it? I just wonder if maybe I should have taken that to because when I was reading peoples comments a lot of them took it with clomid. Anyway, I will pray for you. Hopefully the first round of clomid will work for the both of us.

Hi, My name is khisha. My hubby and I have been ttc only about a year. I know he is healthy because he is too young, (23) to be having fertility problems. I have had reproductive problems since my early twenties, now I am 35. I have hypothyroidism, but I do not seem to be responding to synthroid. I now may have a period 3x a year. I have a nine year old( previous spouse), but I would like to build a family with my husband. I feel my dr is not addressing or testing enuff. I have all the symptoms of PCOS. The hair, anovulation, obese, high tryglycerides, etc. I too purchased something(metformin) online, but have yet to get it. The mental pain can be 2 much @ times. I wish you all a happy new year's and bouncing baby miracles! Pray 4 me.

Hi there.  I was diagnosed with PCOS eight years ago.  I have been on Metformin for many years.  I ttc for those eight years, and I didn't think I would have any luck.  I have been a little overweight during those eight years also.  Last year I started the Clomid with my Metformin to try and see if we could get pregnant.  Nothing happened.  The doctor suggested that I try to lose some weight.  This past March, my husband and I went on a diet (south beach), and I lost over twenty pounds.  In July, I hadn't had a period for a couple of months, and I went to the doctor to get some relief, and low and behold I found out I was pregnant.  I am 35 weeks along right now.  Even though there has been several complications with this pregnancy, including my being on bedrest right now due to low amniotic fluid, I feel blessed to have been able to become pregnant.  Eight years of trying can really be hard on a person.  My biggest problem, was I wasn't ovulating very much.  Losing the weight was a big help.  At 31, I now feel like all those years of trying was worth it.  I do have two sons who are nine and eleven.  Just hang in there, and if I can get pregnant after eight years of trying, then there may be hope for you too!  Happy New Year.  = Jackie

My husband and I have been trying for 2 years with no luck.  My husbands sperm anaylsis  was fine. My ultra sound showed everything looked. They checked to see if the tubes were open and they are. I have taken clomid for like 6 months or more. I just recently started the metformin and clomid combo. I take 2 500mg tabs of metformin in am and 1 in pm. and I take 150mg of clomid on days 5-9. Before the metformin i had a progesterone level done and it was only a 1.8.  i am hoping with the combo it will go up. We really want a baby and our hoping this works this time.

I was diagnosed with having PCOS as well. I have a 13 yr old son and after all those years....took metformin and lost 67 pounds along with exercise and a healthy diet, got pregnant and had a baby girl. I am now with my new beau and he is 10 yrs younger than me and we are ttc because he has no children. I am still taking metformin and almost 2 weeks late for my period. Went to the doctor and the test came back negative. I am also cramping and having mild headaches as well as indigestion. My beau has been eating alot and sleeping alot. I am going to find out what the problem is in the morning. Going to get a morning test. Wish me luck. But to you all Metformin does work. I took it alone (no clomid) and i conceived. Just relax, don't stress and have faith.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 12 years ago and put on birth control pills at the time.  My RE has recently put me on Metformin and provera.  I am going to start my first round of clomid on day 3 of my AF as soon as I get it.  We have a 3 yr old that we never realized we could have had on our own but are now having trouble getting pregnant with #2.  I've read a lot about diet and exercise for women on met with pcos and I'm wondering what type of diet I should be on.  My RE hasn't mentioned anything about it.  I know there is a lot of info out there, but I was hoping someone could narrow it down for me and just give me a few suggestions I can start off with.  Thanks!!

I was diagnosed with PCOS like 3 months ago, have been TTC for 11 months now, my OB/GYN, eventually put me on cloming after i had to go through, laparoscopy, HSG, and everything else... He put me on clomid but i got one hectic period when i was on my 3rd pill. I still took the other remaining 2 in hope that nothing went wrong. Im now waiting for my next period so I can start clomid again, problem is, the last time I saw my period b4 this was like 2 years back. im not sure if ill get my period this time but i think metformin should help with that. im frustrated and feel like im not meant to be a mommy like everyone else

Did any of you guys get your period regularly while using metformin? Or did you have to use something else to help AF come along?

Hi everyone,

I've just read all the comments on this site and found it very helpful.  I have just found out that I have PCOS and my husband & I are trying to conceive.  The Dr has me starting Metformin 750mg and clomid 50mg today.  I would love to hear people's experience with side effects as I am living in Mexico and my Spanish is not super great, so when the Dr talks about side effects, i worry that I don't understand everything.

Any supportive words would be great.  It's nice to know I'm not going through this alone.

Thanks!!

I was told when I was 15 that I could have PCOD and my doctor put me on metformin and some birth control pills but still all I got was really sick from the metformin and no period.  I knew I always wanted to be a parent and I knew that I always wanted to have a child so when my husband and I got together we always talked about wanting a child.  I am 26 years old and my husband is 44 neither of us have kids and like I said are waiting for that special delivery we want so badly.   When we got married in November I knew that i was not having periods still and I would have to visit a doctor once I got my insurance.  So in December we went to a doctor and before we could even start the whole medication list and charting we had to get my Thyroid level down cause on top of all of this I had a Thyroid issue.  So there I was getting the Thyroid level under control and we did and I was taking Metformin and every month we was getting Provera to start the cycle and then in May I had my 1st round of Clomid 100mg plus Thyroid meds and also Metformin at 1500mg and I did not Ovulate that month went in and had the test to check on pregnancy and I was not so he started me the end of June on Provera for 10 days, Then day 5-9 of my mensa cycle to take the Clomid 150mg,and to keep taking my Metformin 1500mg and my Thyroid.  Also said we should try to lose some weight that would help also and also he told us to just have fun always relax.  He was telling us at the first appointment that we could get pregnant on Clomid cycle one or it may take until the 6th cycle so we will just have to have the Faith, Hope, Trust and a little bit of Tinkerbell’s baby dust to all us women out there that are wanting to be a mommy.

Sorry so long but this is what I have gone through and after I read everyone's stuff I had to share my own.
