Any one take Wellbutrin while preggers

by kris123, Nov 10, 2006 12:00AM
Ok, I have asked this question before but I did some research and found out that wellbutrin is a class C medication not B like it says on safefetus.com  - please be advised they don't have updated information on some of the durgs.  Has anyone taken wellbutin while preggers - did it have any effect?  Also, I am taking another class C so that is two, I am so afraid my baby is not going to make because I have been taking two class C meds.  Wellbutrin has been found to case heart defects in some infants - I just want to stop both, but scared how I will react because I am bi-polor type 1.  Any advise

My sister was allergic to wellbutrin so she was put on effexor (sp?) when she found out she was pregnant they gradually changed her to prozac (the doc said it was the oldest one out there and they knew most side effects for baby) she was on prozac for about 7 months and once the baby was born they gradually put her back on effexor.  she only breastfed 3 months. I am not sure if this is helpful but she was also dignosed with bipolar type 1.  She is only on one medication though.
Take care

I went off Welbutrin when I found out I was pregnant. I remember reading about it being more important to be off it in the third trimester. I'm suprised your OB didn't give you further advice on what to do. There are other drugs you might be able to switch to. Also know that you also shouldn't breastfeed if taking Welbutrin. Prozac and Zoloft are two safer options you might ask about...
