Anybodies' infant been bit by a spider??

Okay, I'm about 99% sure Jacob was bit by a spider.  I saw a spider near him today and killed it.  About 30 minutes later I found a red splotch on his hand with two tiny little marks in it.  

In this part of the country we are known for brown recluse spiders with can cause a lot of damage to the skin/muscle tissues.  

Anybody know if there is any preemptive they can do or is it a wait and see how it goes kind of thing?

I'm not sure what they do, but if I were you, I'd be calling the ped to ask.  Let us know.

If it was a brown recluse you would know that by now as Jacob would be seriously ill.
More than likely if he is acting ok it was a simple spider that wanted to give Jacob a kiss. :)  Wash the area, apply neosporin and keep an eye on it for excessive swelling or any red marks starting to road map away from it which would indicate infection.

Also keep in mind so that u do not freak out in a few days time many spider bites will turn a black color.  It is ugly to look at but usually harmless.

Vomitting is a number one sign if it is a recluse.

Did you look at the spider before you squashed it?

Go to Google Images,  and look  up brown recluse spider.  They look like very common field spiders,  really,  but if you still have a spider body and a magnifying glass,  they have a distinctive abdomen.

BTW,  we've had infestations of those spiders in my home - confirmed by the pest control guy - and not everyone reacts terribly.  

Try to recover the spider's remains,  and I agree with Peek - call the ped.

I do have the spider and it does look like a brown recluse to me, but as mentioned some spiders look the same and I'm no expert.  I actually do have a pest control guy coming over in the next couple of hours for termites.  I'm sure he could tell me if it is or not a brown recluse.

Jacob is taking a nap so I'm having a hard time getting more looks at the bite mark, but it looks like it is fading a bit.  

I've been bit several times by brown recluse and it is true that some people have a more severe reaction than others.  I have a less severe reaction to them and in my experience it usually takes 1-3 days for the bite mark to get bad (intense red, swollen, radiate heat, blister).  Mine usually reaches its peak at about 3 days and then start getting better.  But some people end up losing large sections of skin and muscle tissue and sometimes even bone.  

I called the dr, and am waiting for a call back.  

I wonder if since a baby has a young immune system they have less of a reaction since the body doesn't recongnize it yet???

Don't freak...I'm not sure they will have you do a thing but wash the bite with soap and water and observe, but its always best to talk to the doctor.

Yeah, she said if he was going to have an allergic/neurological reaction he would have by now. She said to keep an eye on the bite site and if it gets worse to call back.  

I'm still waiting on the termite guy.

GOOD NEWS!! Termite guy was here and said it wasn't a brown recluse and we don't have termites!!!  Yay, yay!!  

Good thing I'm not a Bugologist!!

I saw your comment about the infestation of brown recluse's in your home.  We have that now :((  i have a 3 month old, and I'm a little freaked out!!  Were you able to get rid of them?  I have an exterminator coming today!!!!
