Anybody have their gallbladder taken out?? (update)

Well I just got back from the Dr. and he checked me, drew blood and gave me an x-ray and I have gall stones and need my gallbladder taken out. Has anybody had this surgery before? What does the gallbladder do? Will I have to do things differently after the surgery eating wise?
I will be seeing the surgen tomorrow and getting an ultrasound and then we will set the surgery date. Thankfully it's just a laperscopy surgery and same day surgery.
I swear, it's just one thing after another......

I'm glad you went to the doctor!  Jody just had hers out, maybe she'll pop over to tell you how it went for her.
Good luck on your surgery.

Does that mean no fried foods ever again, or just after surgery?
Thats going to be a tough one for me. ;)  Well now I guess I will have no choice to eat better all the time!

I had my gallbladder taken out about 6 1/2 years ago.  You will have a little scar at your belly button and two right under your ribs.  You can go back to eat regularly when you are up to it.  I was never put on a special diet or anything.  It only took me a week and I was back at work.  So you should be fine.  Wishing you the best of luck!

I know about 10 people that have had theirs taken out.  And they all eat what they want, and don't have any problems.  But you'll just have to re-introduce it slowly.  But yeah they eat all kinds of food.  My mom's was really bad, she had puss going to some other organs and they had to suction it out.  They rolled her over on her stomach the day after surgery to do a scope on her.  She said it hurt really bad, she was in alot of pain, but like I said she had major problems.

Hello.  I had my gall blatter out 6 months ago.  Im a healthy 31 year old woman.  I have 2 childern aged 10 and 4.  It was very painful trying to pass the stones.  Mine were large and I was not able to pass them so they cause extreme pain like a heart attack in the center of my chest.  This went on for 2 years till they figured out what was wrong with me.  It caused pacerntitis and I was put in the hospiotal for 1 week and had surgery to remove the gallblatter at once.  It took awhile to feel better after.  Cramps and strange bowel movements.  Very nasty.  That lasted 4 months but now I feel great now.  They removed the gall blatter with 4 small cuts,  1 between my breasts 2 off to the side and one above my belly button.  They are maybe 1 inch long.  Healing well.  My husband has also had his gallblatter removed.  Common surgery.

Hi, I don't see the surgen till next tuesday and the pain gets REALLY bad at times. Just like the above poster said, it feels like I'm going to have a heart attack. What can I take for the pain? I don't know how I'm going to live like this for another week. It hurts just to breath!  Should I ask my Dr. for some kind of pain meds? I can't take narcotic's though, is there anything that will help??  This hurts more than it did yesterday, especially after I eat! I have been eating very bland foods and it's not helping.
What are the chances that it will just get more and more painful over this next week??

The best way to stop your pain is to eat food that contains absolutly no fat.  I went through the same thing when I was only 17.  The doctor had no clue what was wrong with me for 2 years, untill I became jaundice and was rushed to the emergency room.  But the surgury is not to bad and the only thing that seems to affect me when I have it is orange juice.
