Anybody out there taken Metformin or Glucophage to prevent infertility?

Last week I had my 2nd miscarriage and my OB seems to think I am insulin resistant and that could be causing hormonal imbalances that lead to miscarriage.  So she put me on Metformin (glucophage) to help the insulin resistance. ANyone out there ever had any experience with metformin and preventing miscarriages?  I am nervous to take metformin because it has lots of nasty side effects.

I was wondering about this too......  I've had two miscarriages and am wondering what might be wrong.

I had a doctor do a diabetes test and it came back negative--I don't have it...  but could I still be insulin resistant?

Do you know anything about that?

I worked with a nurse who because of her type II diabeties was unable to correctly ovulate.  She was placed on Glucophage and was pregnant within 6 months. She also ate healthier and got more exercise. She carried and delivered successfully!! He is the cutest baby boy. Good luck...Mia

Allie 1980 -  I am not diabetic either but I am insulin resistant and overweight.  you can be resistant without having diabetes.  THough insulin resistancy can be a pre cursor to diabetes my OB told me.

I wasn't insulin resistant, but I have PCOS, so my dr put me on Met becuase I wasn't ovulating. I was pregnant in three months! She kept me on it until after the 1st trimester and I'm 20 weeks now. I had one previous miscarriage, but I don't know the cause. Don't be affraid of the side affects, they are different for everyone. Mine weren't that bad. Good luck!

I know that my aunt had a similar problem.  She started taking Glucophage & clomid and wow got pregnant the next month.  She was insulin resistant.  Now she has 3 kids.  So your doctor might be on to something.  Good Luck  :) Jen

I too am on Metformin and the side affects fade once in your system after a couple of days. I take 3 a-day morn, noon and evening.  I had to work my way up to 3.  I was on 2 a-day for a week then moved up.  My side affects were cold feet and hands about 30 min. after taking it then a little stomach cramping (bathroom breaks) but only lasted like I said a couple of days then I was fine.  I also had a loss of appetite which can't be  a bad thing LOL.  You shouldn't have a problem it will work for you ;)
