I have no suggestions, but just wanted to let you know that you are not alone - I haven't found anything that DS likes, so I think like you I am just going to start grinding things up to let him try.
Yeah, he LOVES real food ground up. And that's probably why he hates the baby food--have you ever tasted it? lol it is really GROSS!!
Thanks for responding!
He hates the vegetables, and seems "okay" with the fruit. But I just feel like fruit isn't enough to be the whole meal.
It's funny how kids differ so much----Avery loved it, and Jameson takes it back out of his mouth and shudders!!! LOL
At 7 months, I began introducing veggies stage 1 to DD. Can't help you there. I didn't start table foods until much later but I don't blame him for disliking that stuff. It doesn't taste too great. I find that nothing in jars tastes too good. Even with stage one foods I tried making them myself and fresh ones always taste so much better ;)
make some soup, grind it and freeze to keep. and when youre going out, take some with you. usually when it comes to baby food or gerber, babies dont like the texture.
i had a similar problem with edward and tried the "gerber graduate" meals. they have chicken noodle stew, turkey rice stew, mac and cheese and spaghetti and meatballs. he never liked the spaghetti but loved the chicken noddle stew and mac and cheese. i usually added peas and carrotts or something to the mac and cheese but that didnt always go over so well.
My DD will not eat any baby food, either. She clamps her lips together and will not open her mouth! She will eat anything that she can pick up or you can feed her with your fingers, but baby food is out of the question! I try to give her some of what we are having, but like you said sometimes that won't work. The other night we went for Mexican food and she ate a little bit of tortillas and some grated cheese, but that is all we had to give her. I don't know what to suggest. I am right there with you.
My juliana(9mo) hates regular gerber but LOVES the gerber graduates,chicken/veggies,turkey/vegies,carrots/sweet potatoe. She hates the spaghetti. And will eat everything we eat.I would do as PP posted make vegies, soup, chicken gring it up & freeze. Then you can take them along.
maybe he is just not ready for food yet, i may be wrong but arent the chicken noodle dinners stage 3? maybe the tastes are just too strong for him, since you said that he does like rice and potatoes, those are much more bland then the other foods, what about just giving him the baby cereal with some formula/breast milk?
i was totally convinced that my 6 month old was going to starve to death because her doctor told me not to give her food until she was 8 months old, but andi explained to me that babies really dont have a need for food until they are about 1, breast milk or formula will due until then, and my daughter is almost 7 months old and still gaining weight like crazy with a strictly breast milk diet, so she obviously doesnt "need" food, the milk satisfiys her completely for now....
The dinners I have purchased for him are stage 2, so he is more than old enough for them according to what the jar says.(and his pediatrician)
I personally am a believer in waiting as long as possible to introduce foods too.But he is SO into food when he sees us eating---he reaches for ours, and he actually trembles sometimes because food excites him so much!! lol So I don't think it's that he isn't ready---not at all. I just think its because the baby food is so horrible tasting.
I was just wondering if others had tried any brand that tastes better than others.
I do agree that they don't NEED it. He is still breastfeeding several times a day.He just likes to eat with the family and is very interested in eating food.
My youngest HATED solids. have you personally tasted the baby food? It is awful!!
One thing you may be able to do is put him in his high chair and feed him applesauce or if he has the mashing ability, put a few cheerios or some overcooked pasta on the tray to encourage self feeding. That way he is still part of the family meal, but doesn't have to be subjected to that awful baby food : )
I always nursed mine before dinner and if they didn't pass out, they would join the family but not really eat or eat the above mentioned foods. More likely they would fling said food, but they were still a part of the meal. Dinner at my house is 5:20 every night, their internal clocks send them to the table at that time. It is hilarious!
ryan 10 months hates hates baby food and only want real food - i blend some or chew it up in my mouth and give it to him gross right? he like bananas and loves otameal
Ewww, don't do that Kris. Dentists now agree that most cavities are caused by a bacteria that is passed through saliva. It is often passed from mothers eating off of the same spoon or fork as a baby, so chewing up food and giving it to him is sure to pass it.
You can take an avacado or apple or anything like that with a metal spoon and cut the fruit in half and rub the spoon against it and it will make baby food. It works great. That is now the only way my son will eat anything in baby food form. Everything else is broken up into little chunks. The apple, pear, avacado work well on the go. You just need a little knife and a spoon.
oh and gerber now has little veggies in jars that are not ground up. They are just way over cooked so they are soft and cut into squares. AJ is 7.5 months and will eat them.
one thing that i did for taylor (i started her really early on feed bcuz i just didnt know any better lol) but i would give her a waffle, i still give them to her too she loves them, i buy the whole grain blueberry waffles for her (plain whole grain before she was one) but i started giving them to her at about 6 months, i just give them to her straight out of the toaster without butter or syrup, they desolve almost instantly and were great when she was teething because she could knaw on them as much as she wanted too, and also i would give her honey combs, they too dissolved right away and she was able to grab them and eat them in her high chair so she thought she was a big girl lol, they do have sugar in them thought, i think that was the only sugary food she got before she was around 20 months old lol poor baby
i agree baby food is gross i wouldnt eat it either ;)
