Anyone else with sinus problems and pregnant?

by tayanddan'smommy, Dec 10, 2006 12:00AM
I am six weeks pregnant and I have always had problems with my sinuses.  I usually take sinutab or anything with pseudophedrine in it but since I am pregnant I can't take this and I am suffering from horrible sinus headaches.  I don't go to the doctor until Thursday and I was just wondering if anyone else knows anything that may help.  Tylenol does nothing.  I have nasal spray that is safe to take but it doesn't help either.  I don't know how I am going to function at work through the week.  Any suggestions??

Hi, I am so sorry. We are in the same boat. Tylenol does nothing for me either. All I can do is put a wet cloth over over my head and face and go to sleep. I usually wake up in less pain. I have a nasal spray called Rhinocort Aqua and it helps with my sinus when no other one would but I have to call my doctor to see if it's safe to use while pregnant.
Sorry not much help.

I have chronic sinus issues and when I was pg, the OBGYN told me to get Saline Mist, a salt water solution, and use it as mush as I needed....liberally is the word I believe she used. Every hour if needed.  It reduces the swelling in the sinus passages.  You can get it at your local grocery store or pharmacy over the counter.  Good luck.

Mine as been acting up as well. I have found that the tylenol sinus works great for me, it is the one that is behind the counter and you have to ask for it. I don't remeber the excact name for it, it is green pills that are mint flavor(yuck)
It works but I hate to take any meds unless I have to...but sometimes it feels like my head is going to expolde.
I read in my what to expecting book to go back and forth 30 sec. hot compress then cold for 10 min. 4 times a day.
I have not tried it yet but I might give it a try.

I suffer from the same dilemma. The doctor told me I can take Claritin or Zyrtec but I had a miscarriage in June so I am too scared to take anything in my first trimester. (I am almost 7 weeks) Tylenol does nothing for me either. Afrin is approved but only for 3 days. Saline spray is a good alternative. I think that we just have to rought it unfortunatly....I have found that vicks under my eyes (that's where I get sinus pain) and a good nap are very helpful....Good luck!

I have had sinus issues forever, I usually take flonase saline mist ect. but my doc recently told me to start taking sinus rinse.  She said it is very effective and totally safe for the baby.
