Anyone got a tooth filled while pg?/openforum

by HIS GIFT TO US, Sep 15, 2006 12:00AM
I'll be 27wks next week & I have a dental app then. It's a itty bitty place where it looks like an old filling as come out. Doesn't hurt bad yet. But I don't want it to get worse!! My DR assured me to get it so it doesn't get worse, but has anyone ever had a horrible experience w/ a filling while pg? I had xrays done several weeks before I got pg so this would not happen but I guess the old filling just could not hold up (it was fine on the xrays several mo.s ago.) I just try to be soooo cautious w/ my baby so I was wondering if there was a down side to this? Thanks for info. Also use as an OPENFORUM

I am only 9 wks, but I had a tooth filled at 6wks with no problems.  They just numbed me locally, didn't affect my baby, still saw the hb 6 days later.

no problem.  i had local anasthesia and all was fine.  like 20-something weeks.  my teeth are horrible when pregnant.  the dentist said its typical b/c the baby takes so much from you.  xrays are fine too b/c they are not on the baby.  just wear a lead jacket that they will provide should you require xrays.

Hope/ You lucky duck, my dentist has never given me laughing gas :) Luckily his shots don't hurt too bad :) Only got the LA GA from the Oral Sur. when I got my wisdom teeth cut out.

Old newlywed / Berko my goodness as much as we all laughed yesterday, today just seems kinda sad according to most of the posts, I think we need a malfunction again. Maybe someone will think of something soon

Oh no...I've only had the gas during my wisdom teeth surgery, and when I had to have a root canal (all because ANOTHER dentist cracked my tooth!! Ughhh!).
I knew I wouldn't make it without the gas during a root canal! LOL

Girl I still say you are lucky, I've had 2 root canals (one was w/ a specialist) they just gave me shots no gas, I even had dental Ins at the time :( Hopefuuly you'll never  have to have one again but just in case the specialist is done in several hours all in one trip where as the reg dentist had me come back once a week for about a month. So the specialist just makes one day rough instead of days & days of it :)

Oldnewlywed Oh I just read where you ate spin. yesterday. I guess we just gotta pray a little harder over our food :) There always coming out w/ something that could make us deathly sick or kill us & they wonder why people are fighting over the depression meds. Even water is crazy don't drink tap, or filter, or store bought, or pond water, & milk has too many hormones in it. Meat can be bad, there's mad cow disease & chicken has bad hormones in it & fish has is it mercury or something in it. Now the vegs can be contam. by a bird flying over that has the bird flu & decides to poop & then you purchase that head of lettuce for dinner. Only dark choc. is good for us but we all know the reg choc. tastes soo much better so we are all in a mess :) LOL

Thanks I just didn't know of anyone that had actually had it done, plus my BP is not high so if I'm gonna do it I feel like it's now (bp got high w/DS#1 after about 29wks or so)or wait til after DS#2 arrives. I love my dentist he's great, ya know but the DRs just don't always tell us everything so I always like to talk to the been there & done it people who'll tell ya :) LOL

I had xrays in FEB just before I planned on being pg so hopefully I won't have to worry w/ those this time :) BUt thanks since I now know someone who's had em while pg:)

I just went to my dentist last week, and I need to have a filling replaced. He said that he would do it after my first trimester is over just to be on the safe side. It isn't dangerous to the baby to have fillings and stuff like that...they just can't use the laughing gas on you. ;-)

I got my tooth filled when I was pregnant.  I believe I was around 22 weeks or so.  I had previous filling that had fallen out and part of it got stuck in my gums inbetween the two teeth.  This hurt really bad and turns out I had to have a root canal done, b/c the filling had been out for awhile.  I would for sure get it filled.  He just filled it until I had my DD and then he went in and finished it out.  Glad I did that and didn't wait otherwise I am sure I would have gotten an infection and that would've been worse.

I always go to the dentist when I'm fixing to ttc just so I can avoid dental wk while pg but this time I guess the filling was not up to holding on. Thanks for the info I just HATE getting anything done while pg, but I'm going to go ahead & no one had a bad story to tell so I'll be praying my little guy will just sleep right thru the drilling & be fine :) LOL
I'm one of those people that don't take anything while pg except the epidural at the end :) LOL & a shot of navo-cane (SP) for this go around :)
