Anyone used Soy or Nutrimagen formula, Did they help with gas?

Anyone used Soy or Nutrimagen formula, Did they help with gas?

My almost six week old baby girl is colicky and extremely gassy. We were trying the enfamil gentlease but it didn't work. Ou Ped. recommended switching to a Soy based formula for a few days and then if there is still no change we should put her on nutrimagen(hypoallergenic, no cow's milk, soy or lactose). My question is, are these safe alternatives? I googled them both and found some misleading info. Some sites discussed harmful efects of Soy formulas as well as the hypoallerginic ones such as Nutrimagen and Alimentum. If anyone has tried these or has any info. I would really appreciate it. Also, I am giving her something else recommended by Ped. called gripe water for colick. Today is the first day and she does seem better but I guess it's too soon to tell.

Hello. I did consider using soy formula with my daughter, however, then I did some research. I must warn you that soy is coming under HIGH scrutiny when it comes to its use in infant formulas. I have pasted a link below to an article, however, you can find many articles by doing a simple internet search.

http://www.mercola.com/2001/jun/13/soy_formula.htm

I have a Master's Degree in Natural Health and this was my topic of research...for my child's sake, I'm glad I found out about this early. All I ask is that you read the article and educate yourself.

The risks are not worth it, as far as my opinion goes. Good luck in what you choose, and please ask me if you do need further information.

Thanks Cheryl. I have decided not to use the soy but I did go and get some enfamil lacto free, it uses cow's milk as the protein source but she really is allergic to cow's milk just intolerant so    I am hoping this may work. Do you know anything about that one, if it doesn't work I will be forced to try the nutramegin but I hope I don't have to. It is very expensive and I found some questionalbel info. when I googled it. Thanks again

The Nutramigen helped with spitting up and colic but not really gas, I have since switched to the Enfamil Lipil Gentlease and it seems to be helping with the gas, spitting up and everything else, so far so good.

I've not heard any negative on the lacto-free. Soy is a questionable product even for adults. I say stay away from soy all together if you can...both your children and yourself. New research will show that the risks are just not worth it.

Let me know how the Lacto-Free goes. I'm sure it will work great!

I used nutremigen with DD. She had acid reflux, prejectile spitting up and she screamed all the time on soy so ped. said she was alergic (allergic) to soy.  Things did get much better when she was on nutremigen.
